What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 21-11-2010 There was a series of 'pressings' from TDB album which have an excerpt of an old man talking on the phone. It comes in a good while after the last few notes of 'High Hopes' have faded away. He is asking 'Is that Charlie?' on the phone. If you have a CD of the album, stick on the headphones and let the album run out fully. It might or might not be on your particular pressing. It's definitely on mine. I think it might have been a genuine mistake, but who knows? What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 21-11-2010 I've just done a bit of research: The phone call is Steve O'Rourke (Now-deceased Floyd manager) calling Gilmour's stepson Charlie, apparently begging to be allowed to appear on a Floyd album. And Lo, it happened... What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 21-11-2010 Well now we know. I wonder how many people have actually noticed that on the album. Good stuff Tiggi. I wasn't sure whether it was a mistake at the time of pressing or an intentional addition. Agree about the clocks - and the processed roto toms playing along at the same time were incredibly 'spacey' for their time. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 23-11-2010 from my library (vinyl) ![]() Fourth album from one of my favorites. Don't think it lives up to the first three, but still a good grade. Hit was Touch Me, which was not one of my top choices on here. The use of horns and strings was tried out on some tracks, and it failed for me. Another failure were the writing contributions from Robbie Krieger. Jim needed to take the reins back. Still, with three excellent tracks, the album passes. It made it to #6 on the U.S. charts. Four singles were released, with only Touch Me having any success at #3. The album failed to chart in the U.K. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Do It Best Track - The Soft Parade When I was back there in seminary school, There was a person there Who put forth the proposition, That you can petition the Lord with prayer Petition the lord with prayer, Petition the lord with prayer You cannot petition the lord with prayer! Can you give me sanctuary, I must find a place to hide, A place for me to hide Can you find me soft asylum, I can't make it anymore, The Man is at the door Peppermint, miniskirts, chocolate candy, Champion sax and a girl named Sandy There's only four ways to get unraveled, One is to sleep and the other is travel, da da One is a bandit up in the hills, One is to love your neighbor 'till His wife gets home Catacombs, Nursery bones, Winter women, Growing stones Carrying babies, To the river Streets and shoes, Avenues, Leather riders Selling news, The monk bought lunch Ha ha, he bought a little, Yes, he did, Woo! This is the best part of the trip, This is the trip, the best part I really like, What'd he say?, Yeah!, Yeah, right! Pretty good, huh, Huh!, Yeah, I'm proud to be a part of this number Successful hills are here to stay, Everything must be this way Gentle streets where people play, Welcome to the Soft Parade All our lives we sweat and save, Building for a shallow grave Must be something else we say, Somehow to defend this place Everything must be this way, Everything must be this way, yeah The Soft Parade has now begun, Listen to the engines hum People out to have some fun, A cobra on my left Leopard on my right, yeah The deer woman in a silk dress, Girls with beads around their necks Kiss the hunter of the green vest, Who has wrestled before With lions in the night Out of sight!, The lights are getting brighter The radio is moaning, Calling to the dogs There are still a few animals, Left out in the yard But it's getting harder, To describe sailors, To the underfed Tropic corridor, Tropic treasure What got us this far, To this mild equator? We need someone or something new Something else to get us through, yeah, c'mon Callin' on the dogs, Callin' on the dogs Oh, it's gettin' harder, Callin' on the dogs Callin' in the dogs, Callin' all the dogs, Callin' on the gods You gotta meet me, Too late, baby Slay a few animals, At the crossroads, Too late All in the yard, But it's gettin' harder, By the crossroads You gotta meet me, Oh, we're goin', we're goin great At the edge of town, Tropic corridor, Tropic treasure Havin' a good time, Got to come along, What got us this far To this mild equator?, Outskirts of the city, You and I We need someone new, Somethin' new, Somethin' else to get us through Better bring your gun, Better bring your gun Tropic corridor, Tropic treasure, We're gonna ride and have some fun When all else fails, We can whip the horse's eyes And make them sleep, And cry 1) Tell All The People - ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w78xaWKq-uQ 2) Touch Me - ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PECk9A-07Pw 3) Shaman's Blues - *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ajAvDJSGqc 4) Do It - * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIQLuyyBx7o 5) Easy Ride - * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcPcKGoqvf0 6) Wild Child - *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSnQa1rE3xY 7) Runnin' Blue - ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXba-DkIEj4 8) Wishful Sinful - ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1T09EFoTYVg 9) The Soft Parade - *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ3WfF81PTQ 3's - 3 2's - 4 1's - 2 Grade - 2.1 What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 23-11-2010 ^ I've actually never heard The Soft Parade. Looks like I need to check it out. I do like a spot of Doors... What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 23-11-2010 Riders on the Storm - classic! What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 24-11-2010 Listening to an electrifying version of Dolly Parton's classic 'Jolene'. A brilliant cover - one of the best I have ever heard. Mindy or Mimi Smith or something like that. Couldn't catch the name properly. The cat is screaming for supper. What Are You Listening To? - Thraak - 25-11-2010 Was just searching for this wee obscure Jagger tune from his first solo record in the mid 80s and (unexpectedly) came across this video on youtube lol. Will have to do as its the only one available! Great song though!
