Producer: Phil Ramone, Sinead O'Connor

3rd studio album - #27 US, #6 UK, #17 AUS
singles - Success Has Made A Failure Of Our Home - #18 UK, #37 AUS
.............Don't Cry For Me Argentina - #53 UK

A platinum album gives you license to do whatever you want. Sinead chose the covers route with this standards album which was a risky move so
early in her career. Sales were dismal compared to her Grammy winning last effort. Her commercial appeal had dropped off after some
controversial comments. The standout track for me here is her cover of Don't Cry For Me Argentina which did not even chart here. On the other
end the closing instrumental of the same song sounds nothing like the vocal version and her version of Love Letters does nothing for the
original. And lastly her rant against the catholic church need not have been shared.[/QUOTE]

This album hasn't been covered by AMG yet but this review by a previous album might prove instructive: http://www.allmusic.com/album/im-not-bossy-im-the-boss-mw0002693309 And then the songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVE2ovAdgx4 << Change 1941 to 2001 and 2008, and you have Ireland in a nutshell...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJK0sibYels << Been up and down the road and now wants fidelity to one guy--maybe you?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUAQoWfY9iQ << If she took this album and a few carefully selected others on the cabaret circuit, she would freaking kill.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l98g8cvvTXQ << That Phil Ramone stepped down from his executive duties to personally supervise this project speaks volumes--he doesn't back mutts or losers--he's got to believe.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlDX83LVDQc << a universal aspiration, no?
BTW..."...so early in her career...". She's been making recorded music for 25 years. How long did she need to wait?

Didn't read your post or her discog very carefully, did I? My bad. AMG called it a failure and didn't like that 2-minute rant either.:

Well, some of us have gone to independent Threads on a particular artist. To turn that question around--Why aren't you? New posts, replies to existing posts, whatever...

JOHN FARNHAM "the acoustic chapel sessions" cd, 2011

career stats:
years active.....1967-present
studio albums......20
singles................74
live albums...........5
compilations........19

this album stats: no chart entry.

the most recent Johnny Farnham release and its a live acoustic album...
not live from an arena, which he still performs sell-out shows here, but an intimate setting in an old converted church.
many Aussie artists have performed at this small venue for not only the intimacy of a small crowd but also the acoustics are meant to be fabulous there...
this one encompasses tracks from his back catalogue of his then 44yr career...
a good live set whereby his vocals are truly in the foreground where they can be heard in all their strength, frailty and melodious glorious best...
age has dimmed his voice slightly though and that is evident at times, but when you smoke a hundred cigarettes a day...its gotta take its toll on the vocal chords eventually.
but in his prime he had one of the best voices in the industry...well, when people like Engelburt and Tom Jones say "he has the best voice in the industry" you just gotta sit up and take notice because those guys have great voices...
all up, a decent set, but as usual, i dont rate/score live albums...i either dislike, like or love them as a whole...this one, i like.

Full disclosure, I love jazz for it's historical significance on music. Picked up this Parker compilation somewhere along the way. Not a very
good one. I get five alternate takes out of 13 tracks. All of them are from 2 different recording sessions around 1952. Considering his
recording releases are too many to be counted, this cd is a small slice. Charlie's peak was in the 40's-50's. A big influence in the be-bop era.
Died at the young age of 34 in 1955. Coroner estimated his age to be between 50-60. Grabbed a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1984.

Best Track - Confirmation
