What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 12-11-2010 ^ My post on the Love album, Forever Changes. Several posts back. What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 13-11-2010 Oh I see - I'm in dumb blonde mode! Anyway going to listen to an old, old album today. Two in fact - both by the Texan with the BIG voice. Mr Shawn Phillips - Second Contribution & Faces. To be followed by something completely different. Roxy Music live - The High Road. What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 13-11-2010 Next up - ELP Black Moon. What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 16-11-2010 ![]() Also released as Live in Concert. Recorded in '83, this is obviously a live record, consisting of solo Reed, & Velvets material. As a consequence this is a mix of romanticism, sleaze, & bile in equal measure. Good, but not great... What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 19-11-2010 from my library (vinyl) ![]() Moody Blues flutist, but Ray just does vocals here. If memory serves this was a period where the group took some time off to pursue solo gigs. Not a break up, just each wanting to do their own thing I guess. Ray was one of the lesser known members, not getting many solo singing opportunities. Not sure why, his voice is pleasant enough, maybe not much range. This was the second of Rays solo projects, and I think I liked the first one better, From Mighty Oaks. This one still plays out ok, with a couple of bad tracks and one gem. The album was not of much interest here in the states with a peak of #147. Can't see that it even charted in the U.K. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - One Night Stand Best Track - Carousel The world's like a big carousel turning in space with the whole human race hanging on but the sounds that are played on that penny arcade turn me on Then I need a little romance if you play me that song then you'll get me to dance I can dance sing me a slow song and maybe then I'll take a chance For there's something in the air and it's turning spinning seems like I float everywhere For there's something in the air and it's turning spinning seems like I float everywhere Oh I need some loving tonight someone to hold me and make me feel alright tonight and I can't explain why the whole human race wants to fight For the world is a beautiful place so small but it's all that we have to stand on you and I so won't you join me on my carousel in the sky For there's something in the air and it's turning spinning seems like I float everywhere 1) In Your Song - * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDDTCwKZ_3M 2) Friends - ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OINmhQYGK7U 3) We Need Love - ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mu9vPxlEETQ 4) Within Your Eyes - ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLRUoeAIhk0 5) One Night Stand - * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUHaFRw7Mgw 6) Keep On Searching - ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvle8cNFk-c 7) Didn't I - ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNgvdQeOIhQ 8) Migration - ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SorK6dVl5J4 9) Carousel - *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5MBINapBUQ 10) The Last Dream - ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HU5fKNpRMZA 3's - 1 2's - 7 1's - 2 Grade - 1.9 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 20-11-2010 from my library (vinyl) ![]() The debut from the storyteller. Don't think this graded out as high as his other efforts for me, but it'll do. Only one standout, of Taxi, which is the song that attracted me to the man, so the album did it's job. Not very radio friendly for the time with only one song clocking in at under 3 minutes, with the longest at 7+, made it my kind of album. The cello work of Tim Scott made me realize the potential that could hold. Like always though, the stories made it work. Harry could tell 'em with the best. The album went to #60 in the states, with an unfortunately pared down Taxi at #24. Only 2 clips available, shame shame. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Same Sad Singer Best Track - Taxi It was raining hard in 'Frisco, I needed one more fare to make my night. A lady up ahead waved to flag me down, She got in at the light. Oh, where you going to, my lady blue, It's a shame you ruined your gown in the rain. She just looked out the window, and said "Sixteen Parkside Lane". Something about her was familiar I could swear I'd seen her face before, But she said, "I'm sure you're mistaken" And she didn't say anything more. It took a while, but she looked in the mirror, And she glanced at the license for my name. A smile seemed to come to her slowly, It was a sad smile, just the same. And she said, "How are you Harry?" I said, "How are you Sue? Through the too many miles and the too little smiles I still remember you." It was somewhere in a fairy tale, I used to take her home in my car. We learned about love in the back of the Dodge, The lesson hadn't gone too far. You see, she was gonna be an actress, And I was gonna learn to fly. She took off to find the footlights, And I took off to find the sky. Oh, I've got something inside me, To drive a princess blind. There's a wild man, wizard, He's hiding in me, illuminating my mind. Oh, I've got something inside me, Not what my life's about, Cause I've been letting my outside tide me, Over 'till my time, runs out. Baby's so high that she's skying, Yes she's flying, afraid to fall. I'll tell you why baby's crying, Cause she's dying, aren't we all. There was not much more for us to talk about, Whatever we had once was gone. So I turned my cab into the driveway, Past the gate and the fine trimmed lawns. And she said we must get together, But I knew it'd never be arranged. And she handed me twenty dollars, For a two fifty fare, she said "Harry, keep the change." Well another man might have been angry, And another man might have been hurt, But another man never would have let her go... I stashed the bill in my shirt. And she walked away in silence, It's strange, how you never know, But we'd both gotten what we'd asked for, Such a long, long time ago. You see, she was gonna be an actress And I was gonna learn to fly. She took off to find the footlights, And I took off for the sky. And here, she's acting happy, Inside her handsome home. And me, I'm flying in my taxi, Taking tips, and getting stoned, I go flying so high, when I'm stoned. 1) Could You Put Your Light On, Please - ** 2) Greyhound - ** 3) Everybody's Lonely - ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4e5WiSENbO0 4) Sometime, Somewhere Wife - ** 5) Empty - ** 6) Taxi - *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5dwksSbD34 7) Any Old Kind Of Day - ** 8) Dogtown - ** 9) Same Sad Singer - * 3's - 1 2's - 7 1's - 1 Grade 2.0 What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 21-11-2010 Just heard Roger Daltrey doing a cover of a Leo Sayer track on the radio. Can't remember the title - might be 'When I need love??!!' Anyone know what album this is on? I quite liked it. What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 21-11-2010 Going to do 'The Final Cut' today - one of the Floyd's most underated albums. Don't worry Crazy Horse - I'll use headphones so I won't disturb you! The Fletcher Memorial Home here I come...... What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 21-11-2010 And seeing as Mr Tommy has just been on the radio will dig out my copy of 'Quadrophenia' today and have a listen. It's also a really funny movie too.
