What Did You Buy? - Jerome - 28-07-2015 No, I really like it. I am a big fan of minimalist covers and especially ones that have a futuristic feel to them. This one does it all. Reminds me somewhat of Tangerine Dream's album covers from the seventies. What Did You Buy? - Jerome - 28-07-2015 Another one I like (apart from the obvious Floyd ones) is Joy Divisions's 'Unknown Pleasures' - less is definitely more in my opinion. What Did You Buy? - Jerome - 29-07-2015 Mark Knopfler - Tracker Paul Weller - Saturn's Pattern and an impulse buy which turned out to be a lemon - The Coronas - The Long Way - if anybody wants it drop me a line and I will send it to you. First come, first served. What Did You Buy? - CRAZY-HORSE - 29-07-2015 really Saturns Pattern???, Christ I cant believe it mate.... for real Weller you need "wild wood" or "Stanley Road". I got Tracker the other day.... What Did You Buy? - Jerome - 29-07-2015 BTW the Coronas album has been snapped up by Crazy. Sorry folks it's gone. And the Paul Weller album will be the first I have of his. I have never listened to his music before. Just put it on a few minutes ago. What Did You Buy? - CRAZY-HORSE - 29-07-2015 Damn....its not representative of his career mate.... That would be like someone buying "endless river" as their intro to PF What Did You Buy? - Tim Lookingbill - 30-07-2015 Hi, music lovers. New here and trying to decide which forum to post in first since the "Introductions" forum wasn't getting too much traffic (common among forums in general in my experience) so I decided to introduce myself by posting where my money gets put to music. I buy CD's and CD's only. I don't like downloading mp3's and it's hard to find uncompressed music online that doesn't come with some type of subscription. Also I've discovered CD-R media isn't quite as archival as factory stamped CD's. I have photos to prove this. I bought Air's "Premiers Symptones" CD for around $5 including shipping on Amazon. I have over 100 CD's I've bought starting around 1992. Last week I bought Little River Band's 2002 24bit remastered "The Definitive Collection" and their 2014 re-issue ICON Greatest Hits CD which I had bought the cassette version back in the early '80's just to compare the sound quality between the two. What Did You Buy? - CRAZY-HORSE - 30-07-2015 Welcome to MD. Most of us here either buy/own vinyl or cds, few of us like digital downloads... You mentioned Little River Band.... Vocalist Glen Shorrock has a good live acoustic album out which features LRB songs, well worth a listen if you're a fan.... Also, seek out material from his first band Axiom from the 1960s, he doesn't sing as their songs but he sings a few, two of his best from Axiom are "a little ray of sunshine" and "Arkansas grass". What Did You Buy? - Tim Lookingbill - 30-07-2015 Thanks, CRAZY-HORSE, for the warm welcome and the Glen Shorrock acoustic album suggestion. I'll check it out. I'm not a big LRB fan since I hadn't kept up with their progress after getting their greatest hits cassette back in '83, but I've always liked Shorrock's voice and was surprised to find after catching up with their history online that it appears most of LRB's alumni didn't seem to appreciate the value in his voice which is what I identified as the LRB sound along with the well crafted lyrics and melodies as well as top notch studio productions. I'm a musician (not practicing), played trombone in mostly big bands from sheet music but I have a broad taste in a lot of different styled music but very selective on what's good and what's not. I go from Cut Chemist's mix of "Major Force-Re-return To The Original Artform" (best freakin' break beat/live drum I've ever come across, found it on Thievery Corporation's "Outernational Sound" CD) to '70's Woody Herman's Thundering Herd to Weather Report, Stereo Lab, Art Of Noise and Ursula 1000. The list goes on. I hope to find out here a better way to find more current similarly GOOD music these days because it's getting harder and harder to dig through the huge amount of content online. In the last several years I've given up looking. What Did You Buy? - Jerome - 30-07-2015 Just listening to Mark Knopfler's 'Tracker' this morning. This man delivers every time. Superb album. Love that 'Broken Bones' track. Reminds me of JJ Cale. |
