I wasn't trying to make Lizzie Borden into an early feminist heroine or anything, just correcting a widely held but erroneous belief (as exemplified by that ditty). She did not smoke either, but there is a famous photo of her with a machine gun and cigar, which erroneously inspired her portrayal in the film. Parker was present at a number of murders, but her involvement is unclear. I still think Bonnie Parker was a part of the killings. At least the police thought so at the time too. As for Lizzie Borden, something happened that caused her sister never to speak to her again after the trail if I'm not mistaken. I think Lizzie told her sister she killed her Dad and Stepmother. Who else could have done the killings. Just because the jury found her innocent doesn't mean she did not do the killings. Some thought she did back then. So who knows. Movie recommendations please ! - Lovely Linda - 24-11-2014 BTW Big Ears, I think you are right that there are and have been more male serial killers than women. Ted Bundy comes to mind. Movie recommendations please ! - Big Ears - 24-11-2014 Lizzie Borden and her sister fell out following an argument and it is claimed they did not speak again, but it was some time (13 years) after the trial and acquital. As with everything surrounding the murders, it is odd. Bonnie Parker seems to be complicit in the murders, by her presence. I do not know if that was enough to convict her in the US. Certainly in the UK, people were famously hanged by their presence, while the murderer was acquited on a technicality, such as their age. The Derek Bentley case is very famous and contributed, along with the equally famous Ruth Ellis case, to the end of capital punishment. Both were made into films, Let Him Have It starring Chrisptopher Ecclestone and Dance With a Stranger starring Miranda Richardson. The story of Ruth Ellis is heartbreaking and the film is difficult to watch. I do not know the particulars in these 2 cases but the principal argument against capital punishment is lack of recourse if there is a wrongful conviction. If someone is wrongfully convicted of, say, burglary, they can be compensated monetarily for time served--you cannot do that if they've ridden "Old Sparky". It (capital punishment) is societal revenge, pure and simple, Old Testament literalists notwithstanding. Thanks. Getting back to Ted Bundy, Mark Harmon was very good in the movie portraying Bundy! Movie recommendations please ! - Lovely Linda - 24-11-2014 BTW, since none of us were there, I think it is safe to say that the stories of Bonnie and Lizzie are more close to heresay. I may be wrong but that is my thought. Still their stories are very interesting. Movie recommendations please ! - Lovely Linda - 30-11-2014 Saw Gone In Sixty Seconds last night.
