What Are You Listening To? - AprilNz - 02-01-2009 Miles Davis - Godchild (Live) The Complete Birth of Cool What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 04-01-2009 Judy Garland - Judy at Carnegie Hall Arrived at this courtesy of Rufus Wainwright's live cover of this. Haven't heard Rufus' effort, but this is a very good live album. What Are You Listening To? - Beach - 18-01-2009 Currently listening to this from 1973 while I'm in the shower:
![]() Van Morrison: Hard Nose the Highway.

What Are You Listening To? - Beach - 21-01-2009 Have been listening to a bootleg recording of the late Niels-Henning Ãrsted Pedersen and his band 'live' in Sydney from February 1, 2001. What Are You Listening To? - JonG - 25-01-2009 I'm not quite sure if these guys count as jazz. I believe they were trying to move "beyond" jazz. AMM - Later During A Flaming Riviera Sunset from Ammmusic 1966 [ReR Megacorp, 1989-reissue) What Are You Listening To? - Beach - 26-01-2009 JonG Wrote:I'm not quite sure if these guys count as jazz. What Are You Listening To? - JonG - 27-01-2009 I'm sure their music is online somewhere, actually... well in a minute I'll link to a download. But first: Quote:AMM have never been well-known to the general public, but have been, in their own way, hugely influential on several generations of adventurous musicians. AMM have been called "legendary"[1] and "groundbreaking."[2], and are notable as perhaps the first musical group deliberately to try to make music not related to any established musical genre: as Michael Nyman wrote, "AMM seem to have worked without the benefit or hindrance of any kind of prepared external discipline." But first:I did download and listen to it old friend and, without wishing to be rude to you, I thought that of all the bits I have heard over the years that purport to be 'Free Jazz' that was some of the worst rubbish I have ever heard. I can fully understand while Steve Lacy was asked to leave the stage (he actually plays music) and why even Ornette Coleman continued to talk throughout their performance. I really don't like Coleman either, but at least both he and Lacy can play their instruments! What Are You Listening To? - JonG - 28-01-2009 I can understand not liking it. I'm not sure I do yet. I'm giving it time to grow on me. I've heard about them for years but have only recently come across their recordings. What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 29-01-2009 Lucinda Williams - Essence More Country Twang than J, F, Or B. I think she has a really interesting voice, and can write good songs. That'll do for me !! |
