my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 11-04-2015 ROLLING STONES "not fade away" B/W "little by little" 1964 Mick and the boys' third UK single release... "A" side is a cover of the Buddy Holly classic, sorry guys, this belongs to Buddy, i dont like this version "B" side is a jagger/richards track...there has been lots of discussion over the years as to whether it plagarised Jimmy Reed's "shame shame shame"... either way, i like this song the single reached #3 in the UK not posting the Wiki for these guys...we know who they are and what theyve achieved in 50+ years.... "not fade away" * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WB8pUZVLEzA live with intro by Deano(worth it just for that alone IMO) "little by little" ** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdsQWsmo7SU audio link and here's Jimmy's "shame shame shame"...you decide whether they pragarised his song....? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdoF1oP2Pns my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 11-04-2015 TOM JONES "green green grass of home" B/W "promise her anything" 1966 "A" side....one of the greatest songe ever written IMO, and Tom's cover version is the best version by a country mile IMO "B" side more uptempo, not a classic but still good single reached #1 in the UK as it did in countless other countries... here's Tom's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Jones_(singer) "green green grass home of home" *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-yKq-FsFyk live performance "promise her anything" ** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0gzARnG5ho live perofrmance and now, someone on the forum mentioned Bobby Bare last week... so to whoever that was, and im thinking Lovely Linda here's his version of "green green grass of home" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMj8X7pSyTo live version and i cant go by the 1970s version by Elvis Presley, which IMO, is second only to Tom Jones' version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvGvmsLQaHA audio link my Dad's singles collection.... - Music Head - 11-04-2015 had to give that Bare one a spin thanks love Bobby pour me another tequila Sheila my Dad's singles collection.... - jazzboCR - 11-04-2015 CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:TOM JONES "green green grass of home" B/W "promise her anything" 1966 She may have but here's another Thread: http://www.music-discussion.com/showthread.php/19776-quot-Pride-goeth-before-a-fall-quot my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 12-04-2015 LITTLE RICHARD "bama lama bama loo" B/W "annie's back" 1964 like i posted previously, Richard was and still is my dad's favourite rocker from the early days... i think the guy is generally brilliant also, except for stupid song titles that is! "A" side....genuine rocker with lots of his trademark "woooooo!" sounds, gotta love him, makes me want to get up and dance i dont dont dance! "B" side....another genuine rocker, i love it! single peaked at #20 on the UK charts, probably deserved better but it was hard for anyone to rival the British artists in 1964 here's Little's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Richard "bama lama bama loo" *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojgQ5lfLmUw live on 'bandstand', great performance and a 3minute interview after the track to boot! "annie's back" *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktU09IrnelY audio link my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 12-04-2015 ROY ORBISON "there wont be many coming home" B/W "going back to gloria" 1966 Roy's controversial anti-Veitnam war song that was not released in the US as a single, strange thing is, it was released in Australia and the Aussies went to Nam also????! "A" side is glorious IMO, one of his best singles ever. "B" side is a ballad like the "A" side...it could have been a single in its own right IMO single reached #12 on the UK charts here's Roy's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_orbison "there wont be many coming home" *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eIDqJa5za0 audio link "going back to gloria" *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_oyeMQP58M audio link my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 12-04-2015 JOHNNY PRESTON "running bear" B/W "my heart knows" 1960 man, i havent heard this one in years... "A" side, awesome track, one of my favourites from the 1960s.... "B" side is a straight foreward pop ballad, not dissimilar to those Presley recorded in the 1960s single reached #1 in the UK here's Johnny's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Preston "running bear" *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PfrpcqLyzY tv performance "my heart knows" ** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biNIl2zJtA8 audio link my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 13-04-2015 Anthony Newley "ive waited so long" B/W "sat'day night rock-a-boogie" 1959 UK singer/songwriter/actor who had a lot of hits in the UK between 1959 and the early 1960s... had two UK #1s also.... best known outside the UK for writing the "goldfinger" song/soundtrack, "feeling good" for Nina Simone and winning an Academy Award for his score for "willie wonka and the chocolate factory" movie... "A" side is a pleasant ballad which i like "B" side has a distinct jazz flavour to it,mixed with 1950s rock, i like it also it reached #3 on the UK chart here's Newley's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Newley "ive waited so long" ** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBv-toOesZY movie clip "sat'day night rock-a-boogie" ** http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Newley audio link my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 14-04-2015 ROY ORBISON "oh,pretty woman" B/W "yo te amo maria" 1964 "A" side would probably be considered by most to be his 'signature tune' i guess... "B" side, another typical Roy song...is there really anything but a typical Roy Orbison song??? single reached an expected #1 position in the UK, asit also did just about everywhere... im not posting his Wiki, its been done several times in theis thread already.... "oh pretty woman" *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnRS3A_iIYg tv performance "yo te amo maria" ** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s24516_rWnA audio link my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 14-04-2015 damn, two Big-O's in a row, well i can live with that any day of the week! ROY ORBISON "candy man" B/W "cryin'" 1961 seeing "cryin'" on the "B" side of a single shows you the quality of this guys material in the early 1960s doesnt it! i love both sides of this single.... and BTW, Cryin' would have to be my favourite Roy song ever, it also spawned the greatest cover versions also in the sensational KD Lang... this single only peaked at #25 on the UK charts, and im still scratching my head as to why that was so, i guess the whole first-Britpop wave was happening, so that could well explain it! "candy man" *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJjEjMBZESQ live from his 'black and white night' gig "cryin'" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eO8R1w8qrgo from his "black and white night' gig added bonus: Kd's sensational version on MTV unplugged: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNbnFVBVnz0 |
