Mick and the boys' third UK single release...
"A" side is a cover of the Buddy Holly classic, sorry guys, this belongs to Buddy, i dont like this version
"B" side is a jagger/richards track...there has been lots of discussion over the years as to whether it plagarised Jimmy Reed's "shame shame shame"...
either way, i like this song
the single reached #3 in the UK
not posting the Wiki for these guys...we know who they are and what theyve achieved in 50+ years....

TOM JONES "green green grass of home" B/W "promise her anything" 1966
"A" side....one of the greatest songe ever written IMO, and Tom's cover version is the best version by a country mile IMO
"B" side more uptempo, not a classic but still good
single reached #1 in the UK as it did in countless other countries...

LITTLE RICHARD "bama lama bama loo" B/W "annie's back" 1964
like i posted previously, Richard was and still is my dad's favourite rocker from the early days...
i think the guy is generally brilliant also, except for stupid song titles that is!
"A" side....genuine rocker with lots of his trademark "woooooo!" sounds, gotta love him,makes me want to get up and dance i dont dont dance!
"B" side....another genuine rocker, i love it!
single peaked at #20 on the UK charts, probably deserved better but it was hard for anyone to rival the British artists in 1964

ROY ORBISON "there wont be many coming home" B/W "going back to gloria" 1966
Roy's controversial anti-Veitnam war song that was not released in the US as a single,
strange thing is, it was released in Australia and the Aussies went to Nam also????!
"A" side is glorious IMO, one of his best singles ever.
"B" side is a ballad like the "A" side...it could have been a single in its own right IMO
single reached #12 on the UK charts

man, i havent heard this one in years...
"A" side, awesome track, one of my favourites from the 1960s....
"B" side is a straight foreward pop ballad, not dissimilar to those Presley recorded in the 1960s

Anthony Newley "ive waited so long" B/W "sat'day night rock-a-boogie" 1959
UK singer/songwriter/actor who had a lot of hits in the UK between 1959 and the early 1960s...
had two UK #1s also....
best known outside the UK for writing the "goldfinger" song/soundtrack, "feeling good" for Nina Simone and winning an Academy Award for
his score for "willie wonka and the chocolate factory" movie...
"A" side is a pleasant ballad which i like
"B" side has a distinct jazz flavour to it,mixed with 1950s rock, i like it also
it reached #3 on the UK chart

seeing "cryin'" on the "B" side of a single shows you the quality of this guys material in the early 1960s doesnt it!
i love both sides of this single....
and BTW, Cryin' would have to be my favourite Roy song ever, it also spawned the greatest cover versions also in
the sensational KD Lang...
this single only peaked at [B]#25 on the UK charts, and im still scratching my head as to why that was so, i guess the whole
first-Britpop wave was happening, so that could well explain it!
