What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 14-01-2016

I have all his albums except 'high hopes'...I just didn't care for it, I will pick it up in a discount bin at some point to keep the collection intact...

I love Nebraska, loved it first time I heard it...

i'd say Darkness On The Edge Of Town, the River and Nebraska would be my 'go to' albums of his...

I thought The Rising was pretty good, but not great....that was a case of him releasing his anger from 9/11.

the only ones I don't like by him are Lucky Town and Human Touch, and of course High Hopes.

yes, I was the one who thought you would like Wrecking Ball( but i'll only take credit if you like it, if you don't like it, blame SteveO, LMAO!)

I think the song High Hopes is okay, but not the album....

Another album I wont get unless its in a discount bin is Fogerty's last one,
"wrote a song for everyone", its a re recording of his back catalogue in duet form
with other artists....
and like Springsteen, I have all of Fogerty's albums also.

love this guy
all the way back to Detroit City in 1963
way past his prime on this release
but he was still keeping it country
a couple of throw away novelty tunes on here
but other than that, a fine album
The Winner is one of my all time favorites
but I think I've posted it before
love this one also

his fifth album
all going #1 on the country side and this one at #31 on the big chart
very nice lineup of duet partners other than the leadoff track of just Randy
we have Dolly, Willie, Merle, Vern, Loretta, B.B., George, Kris, Tammy, Clint, Conway and Roy
how's that for a cast
a few of those are throw aways but the others make up for it

no surprise this is my fav
#8 on the country side

from the cd room

2 cd compilation, 42 tracks
first one has most of the hits
second one has none that I remember
Flowers On The Wall is my first memory
their only top 10 pop entry on the chart
on the country side they have had 66 songs hit that chart
just read that this album includes 42 of that 66
so the songs go from '65 to '89
I was probably a fan for half of that time

a #6 country from 1972

What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 07-02-2016

I’ve been listening to bits and pieces of Bert Sommer’s music. There’s not a whole lot, unfortunately. An unusual and compelling voice, and he was well thought of as a songwriter too. In the circles in which he is remembered, he’s referred to as ‘the Woodstock performer time forgot’.

He was in the original Broadway cast of Hair, in fact, it’s his hair that appears on the promotional material/record covers, and he had just recorded his debut album, The Road to Travel when he got the opportunity to play Woodstock. As far as I can ascertain from listening to what remains of the live recordings of the festival, he was well received by the audience, especially for his rendition of Simon & Garfunkel’s “America” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CA-NPCq_Jd8), but somehow, at the end of the day, he got left out of more or less everything Woodstock documented.

From his memorial site - “Michael Wadleigh personally has noted that Bert's performance of "America" at Woodstock was one of the highlights of the entire festival! Most have never heard or seen any of Bert's lost Woodstock performance... Bert jokingly started calling this 'The Woodstock Curse'. Being left out of the recollection of all things Woodstock became the norm. The worst was probably his name being left off the Woodstock Memorial Plaque on the original site of the festival.”

There is this from Woodstock though – “Jennifer”, the first song of his set … and if I ever come across The Road to Travel, I'll definitely be taking it home!
