I bought this one last year after I bought his final studio recordings album...
the first disc covers the decade of the 1950s and stops at 1960....
twenty tracks on this disc...
I don't like his pre- rock and roll songs much...
I wasn't aware that his version of 'heartaches by the number' was the original version...
hell, I love that song whoever sings it and this is no exception....
im actually disappointed with disc one of the two disc set I expected more from a 'country legend'...
I hope disc #2 scores better than this, I really do!

this album is almost strictly country with a couple of country crossover songs and one solitary jazz sounding song...
its Willie....you either like or dislike him I guess, me, as you guys know....I love him!
he wrote most of this album, theres an Allman Brothers cover...
one written by Tom Waits(not sure if it was written for him or whether it is a cover though??)...
Lucinda Williams and Norah Jones also wrote one track each, but seeing as they duet with him on those tracks im assuming they were written
for this album and with Willie in mind....
a good country album by anyones standards and especially good for a this far into his career....
I don't lone this album but it is one of his most consistant IMO because there is no filler on it(most of Willies albums contain one or maybe two tracks I don't like)...

this second disc of the two disc set primarily covers the 1960s decade of his career....
I prefer this one over the first disc, especially the crooner type tracks....
again, another artist who sings "danny boy", I just cannot stand that song whoever sings it(even Presley)!
still, not as good as a compilation should be for a musical legend of any genre...
