For completeness, here's Bonnie Tyler's more modern rendition--a bit tub-thumping for me: [URL="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRsoWmXae40"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRsoWmXae40

Jerome Wrote:Every single part of the 'instrumentation' is synthesized. This is copy and paste 'music'. Anyone notice how every riff on the keyboards is exactly the same?. No slight variation, no feeling, no human touch. Might as well be listening to an Excel document.....

Thank you, Jerome, for so well demonstrating my antipathy to synthesizers in general. Add to that my question: What are they "synthesizing" when there's no analogue equivalent? I'll go away quietly now.

Any time you cover monster songs by iconic artists, you are taking a huge risk. I thought Mr. Isaak acquited himself OK but you judge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vxXYRNgKz4 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8NLP240yZQ

ROBBIE WILLIAMS "swing when you're winning" cd,2001 #1 UK, #3 AU

Robbie's fourth album...the third was titled 'sing when youre winning' so this fourth one was a play on words as its a swing/jazz covers set...
all the usual swing/jazz suspects are on here from 'mack the knife','beyond the sea' through to 'mr.bojangles' and beyond...
i actually thought i liked this one better than than the score indicates, but obviously not, im thinking that the studio recorded versions lack a little spark or kick of the live versions i saw which got me to buy this originally...
only one single was lifted off this one...a duet with Nicole Kidman of "somethin' stupid" whixh made it to #1 in the UK, and #8 here in Australia, also, according to wikipedia, made the top ten in a lot of other countries also...
not a bad album, barely makes the passing grade, but okay, if not only for the fact that a new generation of music lovers got to hear the old classics for the first time!

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

This guy sure has had a varied career. He's only had one more good disc since this '01 emission--'06s Rudebox.: http://www.allmusic.com/album/swing-when-youre-winning-mw0002051610 Don't know that he ever made much of an impression in the US.

"what can i do for you"........................................#43 UK

Sheryl's debut set from 1993...
i had real difficulty trying to put this one into a genre as theres so much happening on this one...
bits of jazz, pop, country, blues and rock all over this one...
she won three Grammy's for this one..."best new artist", "best female pop vocal" and "record of the year"...
this woman can sing just about anything IMO...
the songs no matter what style they are, have a very breezy/summer feel to them...
and im ashamed to say that i never followed up with at least one other Crow album after this one,not sure why, but i didnt, except for her "if it makes you happy" single...
this is a very good record with only one song i dont like...a cover of the old "im gonna be a wheel someday",which to be honest, im not keen on by anyone and that includes the Fats Domino original also(and im a huge fan of "the fat man")
