What Are You Listening To? - jazzboCR - 04-07-2014 Jnova Wrote:Very awesome! Love some feed back on this Video! http://youtu.be/fdEErri5zJE Positive and immediate. The National Res got first attention, but his playing that tough, so-true song kept me. Here's a couple of others: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QIuF7ttk6M << the man can rock, too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fpoHfKMkg4 << this and following from an open mic night... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_jrc-AwfBc << ...he doesn't hold back the intensity http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk_62gPdnLs << the "About" has interesting BG on Mr. Nova--he's been around What Are You Listening To? - jazzboCR - 04-07-2014 SteveO Wrote:TROMBONE SHORTY - Backatown He's one of those guys immensely talented, seemingly appearing from out of the blue, who is at once everywhere and in all manner of projects, whether it's playing in them or using his juice to get them done. Haven't heard him dud yet--we are blessed by his presence and energy. Here's his Website but it doesn't begin to cover everything he's involved with: http://www.tromboneshorty.com/ Here's AMG on his latest album--the reviewer says it should be his break-out album: http://www.allmusic.com/album/say-that-to-say-this-mw0002563616 YouTube's got a ton of his stuff--here's a 1-hr concert from Red Rocks a year ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V42wgWmhYFg What Are You Listening To? - jazzboCR - 05-07-2014 Mrrusty1 Wrote:Cannon ball Adderley something else album Here's that album's write-up http://www.allmusic.com/album/somethin-else-mw0000247835 << Miles Davis didn't do sideman very often--payback, yes, but a mark of deep respect also. And here's the piece: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3Lc7OgIngE << Am I wrong to use "transcendent" about this? 'Cuz it sure takes me to different, better place... He's definitely a cross-over artist. Best track "Down at the House of Blues." And here's a live version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3h9t7nQP4g He's still doin' it as his Website attests: http://www.johnnyrivers.com/jr/ << bet that was a kickin' concert What Are You Listening To? - jazzboCR - 05-07-2014 shewins Wrote:I've been totally stuck on this song by Janiva Magness for a couple of weeks. It's "I Won't Cry" from her new album "Stronger For It." Don't you have great taste! 10 discs in 17 years and every one's a killer. Hard times and troubles just won't leave this woman alone...fortunately for us, she channels all that pain into singing and, lately, song-writing. The disc you mentioned was last year's record (and that song was "Song of the Year"); got a brand-new piece out last month called Originalââ¬â¹ Here's AMG on it and some tunes: http://www.allmusic.com/album/original-mw0002667163 << 5 picks to click out of 11 songs--how's that for a track record? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTDgZywTAh4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7LInMiuylA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8AJa0LniCc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfk6tjSgI3o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-HMhpPoPb8 This'ns just for me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tYH7tLMbts Her Website: http://janivamagness.com/ << her schedule includes 2 stops in eastern Canada in September What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 06-07-2014 Sublime pleasing JAZZ for a lazy Sunday morning !
