L.A. band active in the mid-80's. This sophomore effort is not a bad album. I kept waiting for something that must have made me buy it. Didn't get it until track 7, then those last two made it worth the wait. Five studio albums released but this is the only one I have. Some legitimate VU/Television comparisons are worthy. Or how about Galaxie 500. Anyone remember them. Another great band. As far as this band, they just never caught on here. Producer Sandy Perlman, who had done successful jobs for BOC and the Clash was taken on for this one. Didn't work though as it never touched the charts. Nothing bad on the album, and those last two made it work. Vocalist Steve Wynn went on to solo work, not sure how that could have been better than this. Just misses that love mark. Some excellent live performance clips here. Looks like a cool live band.

Insanely good new Scottish band from Glasgow. Discovered them through Facebook and it was via there that I luckily received one of the copies of their debut album 'Mind River Matter'.
This is the only video available of them on youtube, its a live one... from Glasgow!. I'm urging everyone to check out this great Scottish band and there will be a band overview appearing on this site very soon.

Debut album. My most recent impulse purchase, along with the groups 3rd, which I have yet to open. Disappointed in this one. Although it did pass, it was a squeaker. Was surprised at the Blink/Green Day sound, as whatever I had heard before was more towards the grunge area. Nothing stood out and 5 duds for me. I'm sure the sound was a little fresher 10 years ago, but seems kind of stale now. Bands do mature, right? The album cracked the U.S. chart at #185.

Indie Electronica from Texas.
More Indie than Electronica, but there are shedloads of electronic beats, and synths at play, and one song even features a Theremin (if you don't know, Google it...).
This bunch quite excited me on a recent music doc, and whilst this is definitely a good album, it did slightly underwhelm.
It wins out because the band are certainly original. The only remote connection I could make was with Animal Collective, and that was almost clutching at straws...

That's the final track from their album and isn't among the strongest on the record. 'Oppenheimer I', the opener is much better.
I'm considering contacting the guys in the band to see if they would like their album featured on our review page since it is quite recent (and also very good!).
With that in mind, you should hopefully get to hear more of this band's stronger material in the future.

This is one of their gentler outings, and consists of chilled ballads which are by turns tender, passionate, gloomy, and poetic. Most of these are lightly dusted with Strings.
Almost a companion piece to The Boatman's Call.
