What Did You Buy? - CRAZY-HORSE - 20-01-2015

Music Head Wrote:^^
I remember hearing that GnR album when it came out
I liked it

phew!...if you like/liked it, i probably will also then...
that "spaghetti incident" one also got slagged in the media when it was released, if i find it cheap i'll probably pick that one up also...
it was probably Axl's crappy attitude that turned the media against them, because those guys were a good band IMO...

CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:TEARS FOR FEARS "colour collection(a compilation)"
at $3.33 its worth it if only for the Beatle-esque "sowing the seeds of love" and "everybody wants to rule the world"

Roland Orzabal is no slouch in the musical department, IMO. He has an excellent voice and is a good songwriter. Not my favourite band ever, but I can appreciate some of the things they've done and have a compilation myself - Tears Roll Down. I love 'Woman in Chains' with Oletta Adams - brilliant track - fantastic vocals.

What Did You Buy? - CRAZY-HORSE - 21-01-2015

Woman In Chains is on my compilation also...cant wait to hear it on your say so Ruby, thanks!

SMOKEY ROBINSON & THE MIRACLES "smokey robinson & the miracles"

PROCLAIMERS "life with you"
i loved their "sunshine on leith" album from the mid 1980s and never followed up with anything else...
and because of that brilliant album they deserve another guernsey IMO...

What Did You Buy? - Ruby - 23-01-2015

Finally! My happy Christmas to me CD’s arrived today …

Neil Diamond – Melody Road – on a cursory listen, I’m really impressed with the quality of this. Neil’s voice sounds just like it did thirty years ago – amazing.

Pat Metheny – One Quiet Night. I think this is a very special piece of work – it’s just him, a baritone guitar and a microphone. Too beautiful. I had streamed it and it’s been on my list for a while.

The Zombies – Breathe Out, Breathe In. Their new release – also on the list. What is evident listening to these guys is that they are soooo accomplished, and they have no need to prove themselves to anyone. They do as they please, they are masters of their craft, and I’m sure they had big fun with this recording.

And lastly – another one that I’d streamed. Ian Gillan’s One Eye to Morocco. It’s great, and strangely egoless for one of rock’s most recognised voices. I love the story of how the title came about, so I’ve transposed it from the CD cover – exactly as is:

“One Eye to Morocco

It all started in Cracow, Poland, late December 2005.

In a café in where Oscar Schindler had been active during dark times in the mid 20[SUP]th[/SUP] century, I sat across the table from my friend Tommy Djiubinski who was telling me all about it.

He was deep into this amazing story, when a woman caught my eye as she walked behind Tommy. Quite naturally, I followed her graceful movement; I was drawn by her magnetism.

‘Sorry, what were you saying?’

‘Ah, Ian you have one eye to Morocco.’

This meant I was not concentrating on the matter in hand; I apologised and we carried on.

Later I was curious about the expression so Tommy gave me the full version … you have one eye to Morocco and the other to the Caucasus.

We could only guess the origins but agreed the epigram meant being distracted from the party line by the lure of something exotic.

So I filed it away in Incomplete Proverbs, Vague Maxims or more likely Interesting Phrases.

Three years later, due to a family illness, there was an unexpected break in the Deep Purple tour schedule and so I made some calls and we looked at the making of a new album. By the time we’d finished counting there were 38 songs in various stages of completion. Roughly half of these were discounted because they need too much work in the allotted time span, and the rest were put on the ‘Short List’.

There was on particular song – as yet untitled and without lyrics – that I felt should be the nucleus of the project. This song was the criterion by which all the rest would be judged and so the process was made easier by having a yardstick or even an interesting phrase – Aha!

‘One Eye to Morocco’ became the title of that song, and the song became the title track of the album, and there you have it – how apt.

IG”

What Did You Buy? - Ralph N. Norton - 29-01-2015

I don't keep all album's cds in one place. I have prepared a rack on the wall which is divided in years. I keep each year's album's cds in the perticuler area. I never purchase tracks that I hate, so that I have only collections of my favorites.

What Did You Buy? - CRAZY-HORSE - 01-02-2015

the next three for $10 cds i bought were....

BEN HARPER "give till its gone"
i was always a bit 'iffy' about Ben...i like some stuff, dislike other stuff...
and again...i dont htink i can go too far wrong at that price

STEVE MILLER BAND "best of 68-73"
another artist im still not sure about....
i have their debut album and am not keen on it overall...
and i most certainly dont like their 'abracadabra' crap from the 1980s,
but the did make some good singles back in the day so this one will be worth it if only for tracks like "the joker","space cowboy" and living in the USA"

MARK KNOPFLER "shangri-la"

Mark's fourth studio set,and by all accounts his best solo effort...
