Which decade has better music? - Jerome - 27-02-2012 For me (and I am seriously biased here) the best period was the 70's. I think the ideas were laid down in the 60's - (one thing is for sure, the best writing came out of the 60's - talking novels here, not lyrics, but maybe that too) - and then the technology developed in the studios in the seventies - then the majors realised just how much money was at stake and music became a real business i.e. driven by accountants instead of producers. The 90's were quite a weird period - not much really going on that I remember - to be quite honest I bought very little in the 90's. The 2000's started looking up - I discovered 'ambient' music (created in the 70's - where else) but also found some bands that were returning to artistry as opposed to manufactured crap. There is hope. Now if we can only get rid of Westlife once and for all.......May God protect us from the Old Spice Girls too. ABBA forever - Amen. PS - it's interesting to note how many music talent shows rely on music from the 60's and 70's - says something about the quality of the material. And if I hear 'You are the wind beneath my wings' one more time I am going to jump right off the nearest pavement. Promise! Which decade has better music? - SteveO - 28-02-2012 Jerome, I am watching the Voice show and the guy was doing a fabulous cover of Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone masterpiece !!!!! The dude is a baker but he's good ! Just remarking on your comment with regards to talent shows doing mostly 60s and 70s covers !!!!..lol And as far as ambient music is concerned, it is definitely amazing to listen to !!!...you never know what's coming next sometimes and that's an adventure to listen to !!!! Well, you'd be surprised. My pick is the 80's (Including a couple years prior to and a few after. Say from 77 - 93 or so.) I came of age in the late 90's - 00's. So, what prize do I win?
