moving on to the 1970s now...

MUD "tiger feet" B/W "mr.bagtelle" 1974

UK Glam-Rock band who had numerous hits out there in that decade...
"A" side is brilliant Glam IMO
"B" side is pretty good also...love the harmonies in this one
sorry guys...im a UK Glam Rock kinda guy...Slade,Sweet,Bowie,Wizzard,Roy Wood etc
if theres one track you listen to out of these posts today make it "tiger feet"
single was the biggest seller in the UK in 1974 and obviously peaked at #1
here's Mud's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mud_(band)

FRANKIE DAVIDSON "the aussie barbeque song" B/W "the man from snowy river" 1979

Aussie country singer-cum-actor who started way back in 1959...
i dont know if he is still performing but he is most certainly alive!
"A" side here is a novelty track about, you guessed it...the Aussie Barbie(not mattel figurine!)
its pleasant enough to listen to every few years...
"B" side is an Australian 'classic' piece of poetry written by A.B 'banjo' Patterson in 1890
this version has been put to music, and out here, you aint considered 'real' country until youve recorded this one!
i love it...
here's the Wiki link to the poem if anyone would care to take a look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_from_Snowy_River_(poem)
the single itself peaked at #53 in Australia back in the day
i couldnt find a Wiki on Frankie but here's another link on another site with his bio: http://www.showworld.com.au/stars_files/frankie_davidson.html

ROLLING STONES "five by five-'ep'" 1964

five tracks on this 'ep' made by five guys, thus the title 'five by five'...must have taken them months to come up with that title(sarcasm intended!)
these five tracks were recorded for an album that didnt eventuate which was to feature all blues covers, thus this "ep" was released in the UK
i believe these tracks made it on to the US album "12x5" for the US market(12 tracks by five guys incase you couldnt figure that one out?!)
"ep" failed to chart in the UK
no need to post their Wiki, ive already done it several times in this thread already!

MANFRED MANN "hubble bubble toil and trouble" B/W "im your kingpin" 1964

Manfred's fourth single and their success was still not quite there yet...
very bluesy tracks on this single,as were a lot of tracks from the UK singers/bands of the time
IMO,in hindsight, and without me being around back then...i cant see for the life of my why the "B" side
wasnt the "A" side as i only like the A", but love the "B"...
either way,the single made it to #11 on the UK charts and the rest is history!

BRIAN POOLE & THE TREMELOES "do you love me?" B/W "why cant you love me?" 1963

i was never a fan of Poole but this "A" side defines that era in music splendidly IMO, its one of those songs
that everyone knows for some reason....
"B" side is in similar vein to the "A" track and it is pretty good also...
single reched #1 in the UK back in the day and justifiably so IMO

JON & VANGELIS "i'll find my own way home" B/W "back to school" 1981

im not sure how Vangelis purists or Yes fans would feel about this single but i love the "A" side...
and that would probably surprise our resident prog-rock and Vangelis fan Jerome...
i own htis one in my own vinyl collection also....
cant say the same for the "B" side though...very electronic but upbeat but im not a fan of it.
i was surprised to fing this one only peaked at #22 here in Australia, really???, it still gets its fair share of radio airplay to this day
on the retro and 'oldie' stations around Perth...

THE GOODIES "father xmas do not touch me" B/W "inbetweenies" 1974

UK tv comedy trio from the 70s and 80s....
they released a few novelty singles with some half decent success in their homeland...
"A" side, like most novelty singles are generally funny the first few times but thankfully i havent heard this in a few years
so its new and fresh all over again...
"B" side(well, really a 'double-A' side) is a bit more rock sounding and less novelty sounding, but still slightly novelty...
single peaked at #7 on the UK charts over xmas 1974
here's the Goodies' Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Goodies

THE BEATLES "help" B/W "im down" 1965

Beatles....self explanatory really, we all know their hit singles
"A" side comes from their album of the same name and also the title of their second movie...
"A" side, i like it, but dont love this track, voclas by John on this one
"B" side...a bonifide rocker this time, sung by Paul, really heavy stuff for 1965, i love this one
single peaked at #1 in the UK(and probably just about everywhere else!)
im not posting a Wiki, we all know who these guys were and what they achieved in eight short years of recording!

"help" **
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWP6Qki8mWc superb tv performance
"im down" ***
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7dHoEmUtIs another superb live performance from the Scousers!

this is my favourite version of "help"...
recorded as a rock ballad by Australian rocker/popstar John Farnham in 1980, by far the best Beatle cover ever IMO(and Paul McCartney's opinion also)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7dHoEmUtIs video
and a brilliant live version with the MSO(melbourne symphony orchestra in 1988)
