RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 31-01-2018 ![]() EURYTHMICS "ultimate collection" cd, 2005: nineteen track career spanning compilation.... I guess I took them for granted back in the day because, it wasnt till i listened that I fully appreciated all the great singles they had back in the day... whereas so many of the UK synth-pop groups of the day were totally one dimensional, these guys, well, a guy and a gal to be more precise, were three dimensional with their music, as they encompassed and absorbed all styles to adapt into their arsenal... such is the greatness of Ms Lennox's vocals that even Aretha Franklin couldn't blow her out the water when she dueted with her on one track.... so, seventeen hits on here, plus two songs written and recorded especially for this release, and the two new ones fit in well with their back catalogue, im just thankful that their horrid "sex crimes (1984)" was not included on this release... looking forward to the Annie Lennox solo compilation coming up at some point over the next few days, will be interesting to see how it stacks up against the Eurythmics greatest hits package! was a tough choice to pick one track to post here but after whittling the tracks down I ended up with "there must be an angel..." and this one: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-02-2018 ![]() P!NK "missundaztood" cd, 2001: second album of seven, I own all seven.... this one is her biggest seller, moving more than twelve million worldwide... a very good album from Ms Alicia Moore... lots of pop, some bordering on rock and of course a couple of lovely ballads... its one of the ballads from this album that is my favourite P!NK song of all time, "family portrait" which is a heartfelt autobiographical account of her own fractured family through the eyes of herself as a child living with it... such was her reputation even back then that the likes of Richie Sambora (bon jovi) and Steven Tyler (aerosmith) leant their skills/name to the album... RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 06-02-2018 ![]() LOVE AND MONEY "strange kind of love" vinyl, 1988: one of those second hand vinyls I picked up as a surprise: ie: not knowing who the artist was or what genre to expect... so, UK 1980s pop/blue-eyed soul boys... second album.... hints of jazz and country in places but mainly that blue eyed soul stuff "ala" Spandau Ballet etc... love the cover photo is its one of those "a picture paints a thousand words" moments IMO, which is probably half the reason I bought it... nothing I remotely like on here at all, I guess im missing something because all the reviews ive seen of it on the WWW say its a 'classic' from that period??? from the album, the lead off single: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 04-03-2018 ![]() TAYLOR SWIFT "reputation" cd, 2017: Taylor's sixth... i own all six, shes come a long way from the country-esque ballads to the electro-pop of this offering.... liked her first two albums, loved the next three, this one is pretty good but not lovable... man, she has the bitter, twisted resentment of a scorned woman on this album... damn, i'd hate to be an ex of Taylor! as i said good album... lets post the second single from it with rapper Future and modern crooned Ed Sheeran... RE: What Are You Listening To? - crghsam - 14-03-2018 Depeche Mode - Speak and Spell including this classic RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 21-03-2018 ![]() P!NK "cant take me home" cd, 2000: her debut set... I initially came on board with her third and haven't looked back... nothing on here I don't like, but also, nothing great IMO.... she only wrote about half this album so her style isn't totally there yet... the attitude of "don't f--- with me" that is on her other albums is here but only in sprinkles throughout... so, I like the album but its my least favourite of hers.... her debut single, an my favourite on the album: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 30-04-2018 ![]() GEORGE MICHAEL "faith" cassette/cd 1987: George's debut solo set after WHAM! split.... I was a bit worried after pulling this one out, wasn't sure how it would fare after all these years but I needn't have worried, a couple of notes in and I was hooked as much as I was back in the 1980s... its funky, soulful, poppy, jazzy/bluesy, danceable... sold twenty million copies worldwide, and rightfully so... ten tracks, seven of which were released as singles, five of which hit the coverted #1 position on the US charts, the other two also made the top five and all of a sudden he was bigger in the US than in his homeland... one of those consummate professionals who always put his all into his recordings and live performances.. musically, not his most mature album but a brilliant album nonetheless, as was everything of his I own. love this jazz tune from the album: and if this one doesn't have you tapping your feet, clicking your fingers or singing along then you must be dead, simple as that! RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-05-2018 ![]() SIA "everyday is Christmas" cd, 2017: eighth album, third one I own.... a yuletide album.... all originals written by little Aussie Sia.... the songs are more pop sounding than her usual style, almost sing-a-long at times too... a touch of 1950s pop on occasion also... not your typical Christmas album, as youd expect no less from Sia, but not in the way you might be thinking... this one sounds really cool and can be enjoyed throughout the year, as opposed to most yuletide tracks which have a limited three or four week a year enjoyment span... good solid album from Sia, my favourite of hers! the single, with fantastic retro video: RE: What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 06-05-2018 ^ Now I can see her beauty ! RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 09-07-2018 ![]() CHRISTINA AGUILERA "Christina Aguilera" cd, 2009" Chrissie's debut set... the one that got me hooked on her... my favourite female singer of the last twenty years and most certainly in my top ten ever... a mix of pop, ballads, love songs on here, a couple of dance tunes and even a couple that sounds like real soul music... album sold seventeen million worldwide and remains her biggest seller to date.... she won Grammy for "best new artist"....one of the few times the institution actually got it right IMO... not her best album, that still remains "basics" for me, but not a bad debut set... I LIKE THIS ALBUM: worst track: what a girl wants best track: reflection (from "Mulan" movie) tracks: 1....genie in a bottle ** 2....what a girl wants * 3....I turn to you ** 4....so emotional ** 5....come on over baby ** 6....reflection *** 7....love for all seasons ** 8....somebody's somebody ** 9....when you put your hands on me ** 10..blessed ** 11..love will find a way ** 12..obvious ** 3s - 1 2s - 10 1s - 1 rating: 2.0 |
