What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 13-09-2010 ![]() The usual Tull Folk-Rock from the mid-'70s, being a bit of a return to form after a couple of duff releases. I think Ian Anderson is one of the great Rock vocalists, and the band aren't bad either... & Supertramp - Crime of The Century ![]() Also from the mid-'70s. Supertramp's third, and a bit of a breakthrough in terms of quality. Bit of a minor masterpiece in my book, and it still sounds very fresh. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 13-09-2010 ^^ two of my favorites from both of those groups What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 15-09-2010 ![]() Another borrow from Robbie. Aside of the obvious songs on the radio, this band have largely passed me by. Funky Rock music with Jazzy overtones, largely courtesy of the trademark brass section. This was released in '69, but sounds like it could have been made much later. V good. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 15-09-2010 you're on a roll Tiggi What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 16-09-2010 from my library (vinyl) ![]() I'm just glad the guy kept his day job. Not sure if I heard the first solo effort, but this one sure sucks. Rest assured, if the guy wasn't a Stone, he would not have had a second effort, or possibly a first. Some nice guest spots here though, with Al Kooper, Dr. John and Joe Walsh. Must have been a pitty party. No offense to Bill with all my jabs here. Guess he figured.............hell, if Ringo can do it. Only 2 clips available. Love them background vocals (Pointer Sisters)on my fav. I do like the cover choice of If You Wanna Be Happy, but that's one of those untouchables, for me. No utube posters had the nerve to post others. The album screeched to a halt at #166 on the U.S. charts. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Apache Woman Best Track - Peanut Butter Time 1) A Quarter To Three - * 2) Gimme Just One Chance - ** 3) Soul Satisfying - * 4) Apache Woman - * 5) Every Sisty Seconds - * 6) Get It On - * 7) Feet - * 8) Peanut Butter Time - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x94Ni8pdC0g 9) Wine & Wimmen - * 10) If You Wanna Be Happy - * - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9zAL669CDs 11) What's The Point - ** 12) No More Foolin' - * 3's - 0 2's - 4 1's - 8 Rating - 1.2 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 17-09-2010 from my library (vinyl) ![]() This is not a very good album. In fact, I looked up the word bad in the dictionary, and the definition was Gary Wrights Touch And Gone album. Looks like it's his seventh and I didn't even know he had that many. Pretty much a one hit wonder with the smash of Dream Weaver in 75, this is three albums later and the guy is desperate for that follow up. You won't find it here. The guy was discovered by Chris Blackwell back in '67. Chris hooked him up with members of what would become Spooky Tooth, who split in '70. Did keyboard session work on Harrisons All Things Must Pass, from whence they became friends. Garys solo career was launched around this time. He's still kicking around out there. Not a track to be found on youtube. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Can't Get Above Losing You Best Track - Sky Eyes 1) Touch And Gone - * 2) Starry Eyed - ** 3) Something Very Special - ** 4) Stay Away - ** 5) Night Ride - * 6) Sky Eyes - ** 7) Lost In My Emotions - * 8) Can't Get Above Losing You - * 9) The Love It Takes - * 3's - 0 2's - 4 1's - 5 Rating - 1.4 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 18-09-2010 from my library (cd) ![]() It was time to make a deliberate cd selection rather than a random vinyl selection. I was having a string of bad picks. This will break that. Could have been a double album easy with this compilation, but they did cram 15 tracks on here for this best of set. Over half of them tracks I love. At one time, one of my favorite vocalists. The last 2 tracks on here were new at the time, all others from 8 different albums, making a nice view of the guys productive years. Although seldom a chart topper he had some great stuff for me. Hold Out was highest charting album but Running On Empty has sold the most. I LOVE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - The Next Voice You Hear Best Track - The Pretender I'm going to rent myself a house In the shade of the freeway I'm going to pack my lunch in the morning And go to work each day And when the evening rolls around I'll go on home and lay my body down And when the morning light comes streaming in I'll get up and do it again Amen Say it again Amen I want to know what became of the changes We waited for love to bring Were they only the fitful dreams Of some greater awakening I've been aware of the time going by They say in the end it's the wink of an eye And when the morning light comes streaming in You'll get up and do it again Amen Caught between the longing for love And the struggle for the legal tender Where the sirens sing and the church bells ring And the junk man pounds his fender Where the veterans dream of the fight Fast asleep at the traffic light And the children solemnly wait For the ice cream vendor Out into the cool of the evening Strolls the Pretender He knows that all his hopes and dreams Begin and end there Ah the laughter of the lovers As they run through the night Leaving nothing for the others But to choose off and fight And tear at the world with all their might While the ships bearing their dreams Sail out of sight I'm going to find myself a girl Who can show me what laughter means And we'll fill in the missing colors In each other's paint-by-number dreams And then we'll put our dark glasses on And we'll make love until our strength is gone And when the morning light comes streaming in We'll get up and do it again Get it up again I'm going to be a happy idiot And struggle for the legal tender Where the ads take aim and lay their claim To the heart and the soul of the spender And believe in whatever may lie In those things that money can buy Though true love could have been a contender Are you there? Say a prayer for the Pretender Who started out so young and strong Only to surrender 1) Doctor My Eyes - ** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oisCN8fXld8 2) These Days - *** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOOGMaiV1kw 3) Fountain Of Sorrow - *** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FI23qf-xWg 4) Late For The Sky - ** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaknVe4t4oU 5) The Pretender - *** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQiXQUGbac0 6) Running On Empty - *** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nrGrP8xBg0 7) Call It A Loan - ** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLKcDvHZnpU 8) Somebodys Baby - ** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-3TZiyY9Sk 9) Tender Is The Night - ** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=439CsvJERKM 10) In The Shape Of A Heart - *** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXa5wRrtbbk 11) Lives In The Balance - *** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiXvGNEn6YM 12) Sky Blue And Black - *** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAu7gh7xoJo 13) The Barricades Of Heaven - ** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGNdpnYYEkQ 14) The Rebel Jesus - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCsLtsn_Z70 15) The Next Voice You Hear - * - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5d2C4g88b0 3's - 8 2's - 6 1's - 1 Rating - 2.5 What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 18-09-2010 ![]() I've bought a 5 disc box set containing LF's first five releases. Already have two of them, but needed to plug the gaps. The set was a bargain £9.99. This is their debut from '71, and it sounds a little different to what was to follow. There's still the gamut of stylistic influences; Blues, Soul, Jazz etc, but it's a tougher sounding album than those I'm familiar with. Not dissimilar to the Chicago debut from a few days ago, but when Lowell plays that Slide, Little Feat piss all over Chicago... What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 18-09-2010 dont know much about 'little feet'. i dont like chicago, eagles, reo speedwagon, america or any of that american mor music, it bores me to tears What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 18-09-2010 Tiggi Wrote:Not dissimilar to the Chicago debut from a few days ago, but when Lowell plays that Slide, Little Feat piss all over Chicago... love that line bud, and you are so correct. Have only heard one of their entire albums and I can't recall which one. |
