What Are You Listening To? - Thraak - 05-09-2010 Tiggi Wrote:Great song-writer. Cheers a lot for the recommendations. I plan on buying all his albums on cd. After hearing 'Year Of The Cat' I tried to download one called '24 Carrots' but only ended up with the 2 bonus tracks; 'Indian Summer' & 'Pandora', (the latter of which is just amazing). To me when the bonus track alone is amazing, its an indication of a great album. Tried to get some Al Stewart in Fopp the other day but he was all sold out apart from one called 'Famous Last Words' which haven't got round to listening. If I ever get the chance to see him live, I'll grab it with both hands. What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 06-09-2010 ![]() Alan Parsons was a prominent recording engineer at Abbey Road Studios - he engineered The Dark Side of The Moon - who teamed up with Eric Woolfson (who died fairly recently) and a revolving team of session players to produce a string of competent and beautifully recorded albums. This was the big one from '81, and it couldn't be avoided throughout Europe during that summer. The music contains elements of the Pink Floyd sound (but not too much), and the orchestral sections bear comparison with ELO's way of doing things. My copy is an original 29 year old vinyl copy which still sounds absolutely pristine. I look after my records well !! What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 06-09-2010 im the same tiggi, everything in pristine condition, dont know what music shops are like in the UK, but here in Oz, everytime i buy a cd the stores assisstants say 'would you like a disc cleaner with that', im like 'no, ive had cds since 1987 and theyve not got a mark on them', it is the same as my vinyl also, even my mums old mono lps are immaculate, no marks on the vinyl, jackets like they were purchased yesterday. must be in the genes What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 06-09-2010 I think we're related. Records from the 60's, mint condition. What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 07-09-2010 Good chaps, I never understood why people treated their records so badly. What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 08-09-2010 to me records, can at times be records/diaries of my life. i remeber where i was, what happened etc when i first heard a particular song on the radio. i find, looking back in hindsight, that where i was physically or mentally at a moment in time reflects what music i was listening to or purchased. two classic examples for me are 'wrapped around your finger' by the polce... 'you consider me a young apprentice', that means something to me because i just started my apprenticeship the same time as that recieved airplay, i remember where i was working at the time, almost every detail of that time, when i play, hear or think about that song. 'long hot summer' by the style council, came as a breath of fresh air with its cool summer breeze type synths in a bloody hot summer in 1983. just little things like those two examples bring a smile to my face, fond times learning about weed, uppers, booze and girls....fantasic! its true what some people say, music is the soundtrack to our lives What Are You Listening To? - gryphon - 08-09-2010 Close to the Edge .................Classic Yes and a delight to the ear...................... I have one question.....................Does anyone have a CD which does not sound as if it was mastered from a third generation tape....? Clear, detailed and full of attack the versions I have heard , are not !!!!
What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 09-09-2010 from my library (vinyl) ![]() Fifth album from Tyler and company. According to members in-band fighting had commenced. Joe Perry gets his first vocal appearance on Bright Light Fright. High Point for me is Kings And Queens which is the only song with any meat on it. The album reached #11 in the states with the title track being the best performing single at a meager #42. My favorite was also a single but perofrmed even worse at #70. The group had yet to penetrate the U.K. market. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Milk Cow Blues Best Track - Kings And Queens Long ago in days untoled Were ruled by lords of greed Maidens fair, with gold they dared To bare their wombs that bleed Kings and queens and guillotines Taking lives denied Starch and parchments laid the laws When bishops took the ride Only to decieve Oh i know i Lived this life before Somehow i know now Truths i must be sure Tossin' turnin', nightmares brunin' Dreams of swords in hand Sailing ships, the viking spits The blood of father's land Only to decieve Living times of knights and mares Raising swords for maidens fair Sneer at death, fear only loss of pride Living other centuries Deja v?or what you please Follows true to all who do or die Screams of no reply They died Screams of no reply And died Lordy, lordy, they died 1) Draw The Line - ** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhLDLDdRZl8 2) I Wanna Know Why - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YhguX9ad7Y 3) Critical Mass - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hj2B7K8O6qU 4) Get It Up - * - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=In-VlCZrhs4 5) Bright Light Fright - * - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLUYZF73K6I 6) Kings And Queens - *** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQCv80Ac3ls 7) The Hand That Feeds - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=po_J55dDEuQ 8) Sight For Sore Eyes - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_Qu2R8hYZc 9) Milk Cow Blues - * - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ry5s2Pe-Dk 3's - 1 2's - 5 1's - 3 Rating - 1.8 What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 09-09-2010 gryphon Wrote:I have one question.....................Does anyone have a CD which does not sound as if it was mastered from a third generation tape....? Mine's the same Griff, as are most of their early releases on CD. Same goes for a lot of the Genesis back catalog... What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 10-09-2010 im listening to 'best of etta james' and eddie floyd |
