Oceansoul Wrote:Automaton is becoming more common. There was an employee strike at a McDonald's not far from here, like less than 20 miles away...anyways, the strike was about increasing the minimum wage so the Manager instead of giving them a more livable wage got an automated cash register to replace the cashier. Technology is the way of the future and yes, there are businesses and service jobs that will replace human labor. And yep, sending jobs overseas sucks for us yet that won't stop those businesses that want to continue to do so.

Welcome to our society where money and profit is valued above human welfare.
So true!!
Great post. Direct and to the point! Confusedmile:

There are many American multinationals over here is Ireland. They have moved their manufacturing over here (mainly biomed/pharma stuff and some IT related as well - Intel/Google/PayPal etc.) because of one reason and one reason only. They pay very low tax rates here. As a result, to make up the shortfall in revenue, we are taxed to bloody death here. Hidden taxes all over the place. So you are assured of a job to a certain extent but you hand over all your earnings to the powers that be. The country is being prostituted. Ireland is the hooker (the workers are getting screwed), the USA is the customer (well satisfied and paying very little for a premium service) and the Irish government is the pimp (facilitating the whole mess in order to hold onto their well-heeled jobs - they don't actually do any work - just talk about it all the time).

Just to clarify - when I say the USA is the customer - I mean the large corporations, not the average citizen - they are getting screwed as well.

Yeah, this is why I wish there was greater representation for workers such as in trade deals. Expecting that is a pipe dream though. We don't have a voice and so these industries who don't care about worker's wages, environment conditions, etc do these things and get away with it because they run away from here evading higher taxes and consequences for their actions. That means US workers lose potential jobs and as you said, the workforce in Ireland and other countries get exploited to maximize profit.

We need trade, but worker's representation is necessary too.

Not to change the subject but did Trump flip flop his position on illegals?
My take is absolutely! It may come back to bite him in the ass. He may lose some of his base.
Can't believe Huckabee went on FOX and denied Trump flip flopped! The things politicians will say.
Huckabee is suppose to be a Christian. I can't believe he did not think Trump flip flopped!
Anyway, the illegals were one of his main platforms from day one.
I suppose the wall will be next.

Clinton constantly changes her stance on many issues. It's well documented too. They're all hypocrites - the whole lot of them. No real leaders in the world anymore, only con artists. He who pays the piper calls the tune.

Politics - Oceansoul - 29-08-2016

Yes, Trump is flip flopping and he's been doing that a lot lately. Oh well, the damage from what he's said about his positions on Immigration has already been done yet now it's suddenly a problem to him so he's trying to distance himself from them. He isn't going to get the Latino voters on his side either way, he appeals to nationalists too much at this point.

Just on the news a few minutes ago - the EU is considering imposing a HUGE (billions of dollars) fine on Apple Inc. for tax avoidance in Ireland - watch this space. Maybe the chicken is coming home to roost at last.

lawyers are lining up
with guns and money

Politics - Jerome - 29-08-2016

Without a doubt - they always smell the money first. Which reminds me - why don't sharks attack lawyers? Professional courtesy!

This is why it is so hard to vote for anyone. They all lie. They will say and do anything to get in the WH.
Trump learned to be a politician fast. He is not being himself as he stated now. He is doing what his advisors say.
KellyAnne is going to improve Hillary's chance of getting in the WH. Like Hillary needed help
Last time we had a decent Pres. was Reagan.
Still hope Trump wins but does not look good.
