Politics - Lovely Linda - 22-08-2016 Someone tell me what Bill and Hillary has done for us. NAFTA is the biggest problem workers have ever had to deal with! We have lost almost all of our manufacturing jobs here because of NAFTA. Politics - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-08-2016 Lovely Linda Wrote:Someone tell me what Bill and Hillary has done for us. NAFTA is the biggest problem workers have ever had to deal with! that's not exactly true Linda.... yes, jobs have been lost(statistics say 440.000 jobs) since the introduction of NAFTA 20 odd years ago, but..... statistically across the world the same thing has happened... this is partially due to local markets but the main actor is that manufacturing companies globally have started to go more automated... ie: one machine can now do the job of ten men... although I don't agree with it, machines are aster, more accurate, don't take sickies or turn up to work hungover etc... therefore in a way, its smarter or companies to use automation... the US bureau of statistics which BTW is non aligned to any political party/process says that US exports to Mexico have risen 150% since NAFTA came into force, it also states exports to Canada have risen over 60% in the same time frame.... so what all this equates to is business is up, profits are up but at the same time employment in those industries is down... and like I said, the real reason jobs are being lost in manufacturing(which is the main industry affected by NAFTA) is because of total/semi-automation, which is not wholely a US problem but a global phenomena, thus NAFTA is not to blame for that. I companies want to compete on a global scale they have to go automated to do so... again, I do not agree in automation, to me people and jobs build an economy... I just don't think you can blame NAFTA on everything that is bad with the US economy... BTW.... NAFTA is no different to the workings of the EU... sooner or later either the US/Canada or Mexico will pull out of the agreement just like the UK has pulled out of the EU. Politics - Music Head - 24-08-2016 over half of private meetings with Hillary Clinton when she was Secretary of State were with donors to the Clinton Foundation naw, couldn't be any pay for play going on there Politics - CRAZY-HORSE - 24-08-2016 im amazed she just keeps getting away with everything, well, and Bill with Monica also. what have they got that keeps them above the law (other than money)?? Politics - Oceansoul - 24-08-2016 Automaton is becoming more common. There was an employee strike at a McDonald's not far from here, like less than 20 miles away...anyways, the strike was about increasing the minimum wage so the Manager instead of giving them a more livable wage got an automated cash register to replace the cashier. Technology is the way of the future and yes, there are businesses and service jobs that will replace human labor. And yep, sending jobs overseas sucks for us yet that won't stop those businesses that want to continue to do so. Welcome to our society where money and profit is valued above human welfare. Politics - Fuzz - 25-08-2016 If I'm elected president, i will make this the new National Anthem of the United States... ...and all of the citizens will be required to learn the lyrics to it or else they will be forced to consume nothing but bananas and Red Bull energy drink for an entire week. I was here when Bill took our food off the table after pushing NAFTA through. Our jobs were moved to other countries after NAFTA till it is almost impossible for the working man to find decent pay even in the larger cities.. I'm sure the majority of Americans will say NAFTA was a bad deal. Politics - Oceansoul - 27-08-2016 Jerome Wrote:Read a book by Ira Levin called 'This Perfect Day' for a glimpse of the future. Alright, I'll check it out. Politics - Lovely Linda - 28-08-2016 Jerome Wrote:Read a book by Ira Levin called 'This Perfect Day' for a glimpse of the future.I'll be waiting for the movie. From what I read about the book on Wikipedia, reminds me of the RFID Chip. |
