What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 23-08-2014 gotta agree with you on this occasion...hell, if i give Johnny a bad score, thats really saying something! What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-09-2014 NO COVER ART AVAILABLE! KENNY ROGERS & THE FIRST EDITION "greatest hits", vinyl, 1976 an early Kenny best of set with First Edition.... no need to describe the music here as we all know his sound pretty well... anyway, twelve tracks on here, one, "just dropped in(to see what condition my condition was in)" is not his usual sound though...has an almost psuedo-psychadelic sound... i love that one, strange though why a rockabilly-cum-country singer would do a song like that??? two worldwide hits on here in the classic "Ruby, dont take your love to town" and "reuben james" all up, a very good album, as was most his material up until the early 1980s... I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: i believe in music best track: ruby, dont take your love to town http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2ldtuSfm9g live tracks: 1. ruby, dont take your love to town *** 2. but you know i love you ** 3. just dropped in(to see what condition my condition was in) *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZ8k6fVe25k live 4. momma's waiting *** 5.heed the call *** 6. something's burning ** 7. reuben james *** 8. i believe in music ** 9. love woman ** 10.tell it all brother ** 3s=5 2s=5 1s=0 rating: 2.5 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-09-2014 NO COVER ART AVAILABLE!!!! BUDDY WILLIAMS "the cowboy's life is good enough for me" vinyl,1969 Aussie country icon, born 1918,died 1986, recording career spanned 1938 thru 1986, very little info on this guys for some reason, but in that time he must have recorded a lot of music... this is the only thing i have of his, thinking i picked it up at a secondhand record store at some point, but cant be positive... this was when country was country, none of that crossover bollocks... songs feature electric guitar, which would have still been a novelty amongst the country guys back then songs deal with Australian themes and arent too bad, but not a patch on another Aussie country guy from the same era who i wont mention at this time... its not bad, more of a nostalgia piece for me,as in...the birth of country, origins of country etc... its wasnt expected, but there is only one track available on youtube, and it is of one of the tracks i like, so take a listen to it. barely makes the passing grade but there are some half decent tracks on here... I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: rockin' cowboy best track: the cowboy's life is good enough for me tracks: 1. where the roly poly grass rolls o'er the plain * 2. the bushman's rodeo ** 3. ridin' down the valley ** 4. the cowboy's life is good enough for me ** 5. the sad eyed zebu steer ** 6. the backbone of the land ** 7. the sounds of the bush at night ** 8. ridin' home at sundown ** 9. mad sam fuller * 10.the australian hillbilly ** 11.pioneering days ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1XozXUBcOY audio 12.rockin' cowboy * 3s=0 2s=9 1s=3 rating: 1.7 What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 07-09-2014 They don't make 'em like this anymore !!!!...what a shame...pure and simple music straight from the heart! What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 09-09-2014 ![]() DON GIBSON "the very best of".....vinyl, 1965 career stats studio albums..........34 singles....................89 another old vinyl from the box to the turntable... the brilliant Don Gibson this time round... ive always thought of Don as not strictly country, but a country crooner, much like "gentleman" Jim Reeves... he even has very similar vocal tones and vocal quality to Jim in places...love him also! for those who dont know,Gibson wrote "i cant stop lovin' you" which i guess was made famous by Ray Charles, and we all know his version, right? elsewhere we have the country standard "oh lonesome me", which anybody who's anybody in country music has tried at one time or another... and so on... just an album of complete class by one of the great artists from the 50s-60s and into the 70s and beyond... i really should get a definitive set on cd at some point because my vinyl is a bit crackly at times, but thats part of the vinyl charm really, isnt it! I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: just one time best track: oh,lonesome me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7USsK4v6Bw nice live clip with June Carter(cool stuff!) tracks: 1. i cant stop loving you *** 2. a legend in my time *** 3. just one time ** 4. i think its best(to forget me) ** 5. lonesome number one *** 6. God walks these hills with me *** 7. oh,lonesome me *** 8. its my way ** 9. blue, blue day *** 10.its a sin *** 11.sea of heartbreak *** 12.where no one stands alone *** 3s=9 2s=3 1s=0 rating: 2.7 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 09-09-2014 ^^ not sure if I have anything by Mr. Gibson worth it if only for Oh Lonesome Me What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 17-09-2014 ![]() SLIM DUSTY "songs for rolling stones" cd, 1965 career stats: studio albums..................106 singles............................343 career duration.................65yrs will the real Slim Dusty please stand up....lol! not sure how many albums up to this one he was up to, but it must have been a few.... no singles off this one for some reason and the album didnt chart here, strange indeed?! anyway, song matter deals with the old country theme of people being 'down and out', 'down to their last penny/smoke' etc etc... one track on here, "whiskey blues" is a re-written version of the old "cocaine blues"...i guess that whiskey would have been the worst thing people could get addicted to back then and here... people didnt really hear about Coke in Australia until the 1970s,even heroin was scarce until the 1980s here... anyway, lots of the usual Slim sounds happening, lovely, yet often sad stories of life in the rugged bush we call Australia... not his best album but still reasonable, and worth it because these songs never appeared on best of sets, thus avoiding the old 'double-up tracks'... and sorry guys...no links for this album on youtube. I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: travellin' guitar best track: rovin' gambler tracks: 1. born to be a rolling stone ** 2. rovin' gambler *** 3. bumming around ** 4. whiskey blues ** 5. can i sleep in your barn tonight ** 6. the road to gundagai ** 7. three times seven * 8. little blossom ** 9. travellin' guitar * 10.down the track ** 11.i'll be a bachelor till i die ** 12.somebody's mother tonight ** 3s=1 2s=9 1s=2 rating: 1.9 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 19-09-2014 ![]() SLIM DUSTY "songs from the cattle camps" cd, 1967 songs on this Slim album are not all about 'cattle', but rather songs associated with the people who work the cattle camps/stock routes... not an acoustic album, as there are steel guitars on this one... so its more uptempo and catchy than some of his earlier material... this is the Slim i really like, well, i actually like his material whatever he does, this is my favourite of the five studio sets i own on cd... difference between this one and the others apart from the steel guitars is that theres nothing i dont like on here and several i love... a quality country singer who should have, but never made it outside Australia...i guess the Aussie themes were not really understood fully for the Americans to appreciate him, which is strange because both country's were built upon farming, both crops and livestock... I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: old beau best track: i must have good terbaccy when i smoke tracks: 1. fair enough *** 2. dreamtime voices ** 3. the crow ** 4. ghosts of the Golden Mile *** 5. back in the saddle ** 6. i must have good terbaccy when i smoke *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xz7t552_qgU audio 7. hard hard country *** 8. St.Peter ** 9. old man drought ** 10.back where i belong ** 11.old beau ** 12.old mates *** 3s=5 2s=7 1s=0 rating: 2.4 What Are You Listening To? - jazzboCR - 19-09-2014 Music Head Wrote:^^Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xc-2eO8FJzk To run my gibs for a minute: An excellent example of White country blues. The stockyard/ packing house guys in Waco, Texas are not that much different from the auto-parts-maker worker Black guys in Chicago. Same wants and needs in life, same desire to honky-tonk on Saturday night, same big head Sunday morning. Ray Charles made a career out of showing these 2 worlds to be essentially the same; here joining with Ronnie Milsap: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTTTdmDI6hg << have to look up more by Mr. Milsap--he truly brings it. What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-09-2014 ![]() SLIM DUSTY "the very best of" cd, 2003 a compilation of the career of Slim Dusty... only 25 tracks on here which, barely causes a ripple on the surface of his 50+yr/106 studio album career...but a decent retrospective look anyway...! songs on here span the 1950s thru to the late 1990s, album was released not long after he died in 2003. lots of Australiana songs on here, but Americans would and should appreciate them also as our humble beginnings were built upon plenty of sweat and toil just like those guys... this is one compilation any true music fan should own, especially you country guys out there... i guess to describe his sound,Woodie Guthrie comes to mind immediately, even bits of Hank Snr also, which makes it hard to imagine how three singers at opposite ends of the earth,at the same/similar time all came up with similar sounds... i find it difficult to pick a best track off this one but this time i'll pick his biggest and most well known song(his signature tune i guess?!) I LOVE THIS ALBUM Worst Track: I'm Going Back Again To Yarrawonga Best Track: A Pub With No Beer Tracks: 1) Looking Forward, Looking Back *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D59cX23PDu4 2) A Pub With No Beer *** live - Pub With No Beer - Slim Dusty - YouTube 3) Lights On The Hill *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et6wYjECxUA 4) The Biggest Disappointment *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cNr4FMWtMI 5) Three Rivers Hotel *** live - Slim Dusty -Three rivers hotel. - YouTube 6) Ringer From The Top End *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoVrsRCOLyw 7) Where Country Is *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfJ5h0AJ4HU 8) Leave Him In The Longyard *** live - Slim Dusty -- Leave Him In The Long Yard - YouTube 9) Plains Of Peppimenarti ** live - Slim Dusty -- Plains of Peppimenarti.wmv - YouTube 10) Duncan *** live - Duncan- Slim Dusty (live on Countdown, ABC TV, Australia) - YouTube 11) Charleville ** live - In Charleville --- Slim Dusty - YouTube 12) Indian Pacific *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJRCYWhAvxY 13) Sweeney *** audio - Sweeney ----- Slim Dusty - YouTube 14) G'day, G'day *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT331BRkkP0 15) Walk A Country Mile *** live - Slim Dusty-Walk a country mile - YouTube 16) When The Rain Tumbles Down In July *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDzxfATTTmk 17) I'm Going Back Again To Yarrawonga ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEjOJPFaTxM 18) Old Time Country Halls ** video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5ICFO3dfCE 19) Camooweal *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12LFhv5EBLg 20) We've Done Us Proud *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uF-hcHBC0sM 21) Country Revival *** 22) Cunnamulla Fella ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbPUnED_wuk 23) By A Fire Of Gidgee Coal *** 24) Losin' My Blues Tonight ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afvtx_i4JCo 25) Waltzing Matilda *** live - SYDNEY 2000 OLYMPICS (5/6) - SLIM DUSTY - WALTZING MATILDA - YouTube 3s....17 2s....8 1s.....0 Rating: 2.8 |
