What Are You Listening To? - TraceNspace - 20-08-2014

I guess this qualifies as folk. Most of the genres have become a blur to me. I think I've mentioned that before.
I can't get the album cover to load. Here is the title track that I love so much.

this album stats: no chart entry
singles:
"five feet high and rising"............#76 US, #14 AU
"i got stripes".............................#4 US, #31 AU

Johnny's fifth studio album....
and the guy is already loading his albums full of murder ballads and songs of death...
two bonus tracks on the cd including "i got stripes"....
backing vocals on here by Presley's Jordanaires....
nothing on here i dont like, best for me is a difficult one...
could have gone for "my grandfathers clock", "the great speckled bird" but decided on the Carl Perkins written "five feet high and rising"
one of the better early studio albums i own of Johnny Cash, still cant believe it never charted on the US country charts...strange????

JOHNNY CASH "sings ballads of the true west" cd, 1965

album stats: #4 US country chart
singles:
"mr.garfield".....#15 US country chart

Johnny releases another concept album here...and this one was a double album back in the old vinyl days...
songs here obviously focus on 'the wild west'...
Johnny talks his way into the tracks, giving a rundown about the song he's about to sing or when it comes to songs based on true events, gives a bit of a history lesson on it...
a pretty good album for a double with only a couple(three or four) i do not like, including the vocal and instrumental versions of that stupid song called "stampede"...man, that really
is cringeworthy stuff for me, but overall a good album once again from "the cashman"

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: stampede(both versions
best track: 25 minutes to go

tracks:

1. hiawatha's vision *
2. the road to kaintuck **
3. the shifting whispering sands **
4. the ballad of boothill ***
5. i ride an old paint **
6. hardin wouldnt run ***
7. mr garfield **
8. the streets or laredo **
9. johnny reb **
10.a letter from home ***
11.bury me not on the lonesome prairie ***
12.mean as hell **
13.sam hall **
14.25 minutes to go ***

15.the blizzard ***
16.sweet betsy from pike **
17.green grow the lilacs **
18.stampede *
19.the shifting whispering sands pt:II **

JOHNNY CASH "from Memphis to Hollywood:bootleg volume II" cd 2011

IMO, they scraped the barrel when they put this one together...(sort of squeezing every drop of Cash that they could for a purely monetary value!)...
some almost sixty tracks on this one, mainly cosistning of demo versions of songs from around 55-69ish...
theres even,at one point, a full almost twenty minute recording of a radio show he did in Memphis in the late 1950s which includes the radio host talking intruducung Johnny and radio commercials,
hell, that crap aint for me...may bring back memories for people who remember the commercials and maybe even the DJ at that time, but for me its total trash...
i dont like a single thing about this "cash-in,Cashman" album, ive only played it once and will probably never play it again, it aint a patch on the first so-called "bootleg" album as you will read when i post that one, and also, i believe they have now released a #3 album in that Bootleg series...i havent heard it, dont want to hear it, and hell will freeze over before i purchase it!
i cant bring myself to youtube links for this one as i dislike it so much which can only mean that it gets a perfect score of 1.0 from me...thankfully i know enough about Johnny Cash to realise this is a piece of crap and not representative of his illustrious career!

^^
I don't like anything that has the word bootleg associated with it
