Born on this day ... - Ruby - 26-11-2016 John McVie was born on this day in 1945, in London, England. He is the Mac in Fleetwood. A bass player, he started out invited to play with John Mayallâs Bluesbreakers, a huge vote of confidence for an aspiring muso, but he ultimately got fired for drunkenness and a couple of years down the line, an alcohol induced seizure gave him a big enough fright for him to have been sober ever since. In the meantime, he followed the also-fired-by-John-Mayall Peter Green, and married Christine Perfect who had been with Chicken Shack and who ended up as a major contributor to Fleetwood Macâs success despite the fact that all of their personal relationships were ⦠well â¦. uumm - interesting! Along with the addition of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, and eleven albums later, Fleetwood Mac went on to achieve great things with a line-up not even remotely resembling the original incarnation; it was Peter Green who had started it all - he had been instrumental in recruiting both Mick Fleetwood and John McVie and in fact it was he who coined the FM title. They hit the bigtime with Rumours and this track was written by the whole lot of âem, including John whose songwriting credits are rare! Itâs a classic ⦠ Born on this day ... - Inna Selez - 30-11-2016 Steven Hiroyuki "Steve" Aoki was born November 30, 1977. When he was four years old, his mother found him trying to emulate the sounds of the music she was playing on the piano by stretching elastic bands over the handles of his dresser drawers and plucking them. After that, he was very sensibly packed off to a tutor and given lessons on an especially sized violin; he debuted at Carnegie Hall at the age of 17. He is a lyrical and virtuoso violinist and conductor and the dedicated owner of a 300 year old Stradivarius known as the Gibson ex Huberman which he begged borrowed and traded things in order to own; he had held it and played once before when it was with its previous owner, and had fallen in love with the instrument whose fate seemed likely to be that of languishing in a wealthy industrialistâs private collection. He finally managed to acquire it for just shy of 4 million dollars and it is well taken care of by luthier Emmanuel Gradoux-Matt. Bell was the soloist on the award winning soundtrack to the fantastic move, The Red Violin, but the Gibson ex Huberman has almost as chequered a history and is the subject of its own documentary, The Return of the Violin, having been twice stolen and recovered in its lifetime to date! In 2007, Joshua Bell took part in a very interesting social experiment which was set up by the Washington Post as follows, from Wiki ⦠âIn an experiment initiated by The Washington Post columnist Gene Weingarten, Bell donned a baseball cap and played as an incognito busker at the Metro subway station L'Enfant Plaza in Washington, D.C. on January 12, 2007. The experiment was videotaped on hidden camera; of the 1,097 people who passed by, only seven stopped to listen to him, and only one recognized him. For his nearly 45-minute performance, Bell collected $32.17 from 27 passersby (excluding $20 from the passerby who recognized him). Three days before, he earned considerably more playing the same repertoire at a concert. Weingarten won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing for his article on the experiment. The Washington Post posted the video on YouTube and a feature-length documentary, Find Your Way: A Busker's Documentary, chronicled Bell's experience.â Hereâs a clip ⦠https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnOPu0_YWhw From The Red Violin ⦠https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slCBWnH8Nms From Ladies in Lavender ⦠https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-Ru6aaipLI And nominated for an Oscar, he performs on this song with Scarlett Johansson ⦠itâs from the soundtrack of the award winning documentary on climate change, Chasing Ice ⦠written by J Ralph ...
