Terence Edward ‘Terry’ Hall was born on this day in 1959, in Coventry, England. Associated with a number of different bands but probably best known as the lead singer of The Specials, then Fun Boy Three. The Specials had a big hit in 1981 in the UK with Ghost Town which spent three weeks at #1 and ten weeks in total in the Top 40 –

Quite the interesting gent is Terry Hall--fad-wave rider par excellence, first with the UK's Reggae boom, then "new wave" and then whatever Black idiom is current. His Wiki:

The Specials never missed the too10 on the UK singles charts until Hall and Staples left to form Fun Boy3...

The reformed Specials performed at a festival here a couple of years ago...they were very good

Their debut album is still one of my favourites from that late 70s,early 80s UK ska revival era

Carl Palmer turns 65 today. Drummer extraordinaire! He joined Vincent Crane in The Crazy World of Arthur Brown and moved on briefly to Atomic Rooster before signing up with ELP where he really made his mark, IMO. He continued to do side/solo work whilst with ELP, and when they split up, he joined Asia. I have a pro drummer friend who cites him as his single biggest influence and inspiration. Here’s a clip with him bringing every possible bell and whistle to the party … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQssthhy0vk, and then, just in case anyone thought he actually needed all that stuff, there’s this solo on a snare. Jaw dropping!

Roger Hodgson was born on this day in 1950. He successfully auditioned for Supertramp in 1969 and along with Rick Davies et al proceeded to write/co-author and perform many stellar pieces. Supertramp might be my favourite band ever – they were quite simply, brilliant. It’s funny to think that he left them in 1983!! He’s still touring and recording some very nice solo work.

I can only find his solo stuff on YT which is fine – but I really think they were better together, so from Crisis? What Crisis? here’s an audio of one of my favourite Supertramp tracks (at least, one that was written by Hodgson) - http://grooveshark.com/s/A+Soapbox+Opera/IJxO6?src=5 … and another from his solo album In the Eye of the Storm -
