What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 16-06-2010 Had to investigate... The Doves were an American band during the '90s. They have an album by the name of Affinity, which includes your track. Might be difficult to get hold of, although marketplace traders on Amazon.com have new copies. Hope this helps... What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 17-06-2010 Thx Tiggi It's early morning here on the Emerald Isle and I am having a fag, a cup of tea and listening to William Orbit's 'Pieces in a Modern Style' - bliss. Excellent morning music. Excellent morning music. I'd just like to point out to any of our American members who don't know, that some of the above terminology has a different meaning this side of the pond ... What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 17-06-2010 Tiggi Wrote:I'd just like to point out to any of our American members who don't know, that some of the above terminology has a different meaning this side of the pond ... Why, what does cup of tea mean over there? What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 18-06-2010 By the way the Doves track I mentioned earlier was still bugging me so I decided to delve a little deeper. It turns out there are three bands that have some variation of the name 'the Doves'. One in the states, one based in London and one based in Manchester. No wonder it's confusing. What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 18-06-2010 Bought 2 DVD's yesterday. Rick Wakeman's Live DVD of 'The Six Wives of Henry the Eighth' - stunning. Also Kings of Leon live at the O2 in London. Mediocre, with the cameraman more concerned with catching the audience waving their mobile phones around instead of concentrating on the performance. I like their studio stuff but live they don't live up to expectation. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 20-06-2010 from my libray (cd) I do not consider them a blues band. This is the fourth album from the New Jersey band fomed in 1987. That could be where they got the album title. This is their best selling album on the strength of the single Run Around, which is the best thing on here. Hook was the follow up single. The album reached #8 on the U.S. charts. Never was a big fan of this group, but I gotta give John Popper some props on that harmonica. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - The Good, The Bad And The Ugly Best Track - Run Around Once upon a midnight dearie I woke with something in my head I couldn't escape the memory Of a phone call and of what you said Like a game show contestant with a parting gift I could not believe my eyes When I saw through the voice of a trusted friend Who needs to humor me and tell me lies Yeah humor me and tell me lies And I'll lie too and say I don't mind And as we seek so shall we find And when you're feeling open I'll still be here But not without a certain degree of fear Of what will be with you and me I still can see things hopefully But you Why you wanna give me a run-around Is it a sure-fire way to speed things up When all it does is slow me down And shake me and my confidence About a great many things But I've been there I can see it cower Like a nervous magician waiting in the wings Of a bad play where the heroes are right And nobody thinks or expects too much And Hollywood's calling for the movie rights Singing hey babe let's keep in touch Hey baby let's keep in touch But I want more than a touch I want you to reach me And show me all the things no one else can see So what you feel becomes mine as well And soon if we're lucky we'd be unable to tell What's yours and mine the fishings fine And it doesn't have to rhyme so don't you feed me a line But you Why you wanna give me a run-around Is it a sure-fire way to speed things up When all it does is slow me down Tra la la la la bombardier this is the pilot speaking And I've got some news for you It seems my ship still stands no matter what you drop And there ain't a whole lot that you can do Oh sure the banner may be torn and the wind's gotten colder Perhaps I've grown a little cynical But I know no matter what the waitress brings I shall drink in and always be full Yea I will drink in and always be full Oh I like coffee And I like tea I'd like to be able to enter a final plea I still got this dream that you just can't shake I love you to the point you can no longer take Well all right okay So be that way I hope and pray That there's something left to say But you Why you wanna give me a run-around Is it a sure-fire way to speed things up When all it does is slow me down But you Why you wanna give me a run-around Is it a sure-fire way to speed things up When all it does is slow me down 1) Run Around - ** - video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ousaiByU1ko 2) Stand - * 3) Look Around - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6jC_kGrd9s 4) Fallible - * - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbVsLURA1wU 5) The Mountains Win Again - ** - video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4OTDztS_iA 6) Freedom - * - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apZnLDDUDHQ 7) Crash Burn - * - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aO2OFEa6aHw 8) Price To Pay - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsoXPiEXaYI 9) Hook - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdz5kCaCRFM 10) The Good, The Bad And The Ugly - * - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGFFGCzrWss 11) Just Wait - ** 12) Brother John - * - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5cCCEK_Bbw 3's - 0 2's - 6 1's - 6 Rating - 1.5 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 23-06-2010 from my library (vinyl) English band still kicking after 40 years, with various lineups. For this 3rd album, it consited of David Byron – vocals, Mick Box – guitar, Ken Hensley – keyboards, Mark Clarke – bass guitar and Lee Kerslake – drums. Their best album for me. I think Mick Box is the only original member left. Although the band was never a huge success, they made their impact. This was their highest charting album in the U.S. at #23. The Wizard and Easy Livin were singles with the latter hitting #39. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Rainbow Demon Best Tack - The Wizard He was the wizard of a thousand kings and a chance to meet him one night wondering. He told me tales and he drank my wine. Me and my magic man kinda feeling fine. He had a cloak of gold and eyes of fire. And as he spoke I felt a deep desire to free the world of its fear and pain and help the people to feel free again. Why don't we listen to the voices in our hearts? Cause then I know we'll find we're not so far apart. Everybody's got to be happy, everyone should see. For we know the joy of life and peace that love can bring. So spoke the wizard in his mountain home. The vision of his wisdom means we'll never be alone. And I will dream of my magic night and the million silver stars that guide me with their light. 1) The Wizard - *** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eq8nQOhZ3u8 2) Traveller In Time - ** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xqszsnt2FTU 3) Easy Livin - ** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4o--q6xuvs 4) Poets Justice - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOBOn-tSEx0 5) Circle Of Hands - *** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuQAbCOqsOA 6) Rainbow Demon - * - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEdKcblmctA 7) All My Life - *** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PfoBtMIjhg 8) Paradise - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GK0oryNNc2M 9) The Spell - *** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52l0y4aUHmg 3's - 4 2's - 4 1's - 1 Rating - 2.3 What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 23-06-2010 My favoutrite Heep album followed closely by 'Look at Yourself' Great to hear this again. And Ken's Moog work was inspirational. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 24-06-2010 listened online Twelfth album with Tom hooking up with the Heartbreakers and their first together in 8 years. Debuted at #2 on the U.S. charts, so I guess they haven't lost their mojo. Just so-so for me, barely cracking the buy list. Looks like I Should Have Known It is the first single which was one of my least favorite, but what do I know? Not much I admit. A lot of bluesy type stuff here, which is to be expected I guess. It's not that this isn't good stuff, just sound like it's all been done before.
