RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-03-2021 here are pretty much what the main news headlines have been over the last 5 or so years where i am: 2015-2021...Trump 2020-..........Covid-19 2021-..........sex assault RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-03-2021 just when you thought the Woke nutters couldnt get any worse a British University installs a statue of Greta Scumbag! https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/other/saint-greta-thunberg-statue-erected-one-year-after-iconoclastic-orgy/ar-BB1eX25H?ocid=msedgntp RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - Ruby - 27-03-2021 Very curious to know how this problem is going to be resolved! We regularly have trucks getting wedged under one particular railway bridge because the drivers don't seem to know the height of their vehicles, or they just don't pay attention. Sometimes, the solution is to let down the tyres. This ship is in an entirely different league of course, and there will be a clever engineering solution I'm sure, or maybe they'll have to offload. Meanwhile - the question that has the whole world agog, lol! - https://istheshipstillstuck.com/ Quite a pricey error. RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - CRAZY-HORSE - 27-03-2021 LOL we have a bridge here in one of our suburbs just East of Perth that has the same issues as yours Ruby. a couple of overheight trucks manage to get stuck under it every year disrupting traffic for hours until theyre released... 'over height' signs aside, the bridge is a notoriously known area, youd think ALL truckies would be aware of it, but theyre oblivious i guess! an article about the bridge: https://www.perthnow.com.au/news/offbeat/a-look-back-at-the-bayswater-bridges-worst-truck-crashes-as-contractors-hired-to-construct-replacement-ng-b881553044z the bridge even has its own Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayswater_Bridge back to your link re: the cargo ship running aground. i saw that on BBC World News as a 'breaking news' story... apparently that ship is owned by China and a couple of other people who were interviewed about it alluded to it being run aground deliberately to purposely disrupt Suez shipping in retaliation for other countries putting new tariffs upon Chinese imports etc... RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - Ruby - 28-03-2021 ^It’s not Chinese owned – from Wiki - Ever Given is a Golden-class container ship, one of the largest container ships in the world. The ship is owned by Shoei Kisen Kaisha (a shipowning and leasing subsidiary of the large Japanese shipbuilding company Imabari Shipbuilding), and time chartered and operated by Taiwanese container transportation and shipping company Evergreen Marine. Ever Given is registered in Panama, and its technical management is the responsibility of the German ship management company Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ever_Given I think it’s quite close to the bone in terms of its specs and those of the ‘ditch in the desert’ as some call it! Maybe the canal has silted up at the sides over time and is narrowing? Are those things monitored? Presumably given all the sandstorms - I don’t know – just speculating …. The ship shouldn’t have drifted in any event but there really isn’t a lot of margin for error looking at this info. Maybe they need to try pulling it from both ends from opposite sides of the bank?? There's an awful lot of head scratching going on! Canal capacity – also Wiki … The canal allows passage of ships up to 20 m (66 ft) draft or 240,000 deadweight tons and up to a height of 68 m (223 ft) above water level and a maximum beam of 77.5 m (254 ft) under certain conditions.[119][115] The canal can handle more traffic and larger ships than the Panama Canal, as Suezmax dimensions are greater than both Panamax and New Panamax. Some supertankers are too large to traverse the canal. Others can offload part of their cargo onto a canal-owned ship to reduce their draft, transit, and reload at the other end of the canal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suez_Canal#Capacity Ever Given specs – Wiki again Tonnage: ·220,940 GT ·99,155 NT ·199,629 DWT[3] Length: 399.94 m (1,312 ft 2 in)[3] Beam: 58.8 m (192 ft 11 in)[3] Draught: 14.5 m (47 ft 7 in)[3] Installed power: Mitsui–MAN B&W 11G95ME-C9 (59,300 kW)[4] Propulsion: ·Single shaft; fixed pitch propeller ·Two bow thrusters[4] Speed: 22.8 knots (42.2 km/h; 26.2 mph) Capacity: 20,124 TEU[5] Crew: 25 RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-03-2021 ^^ i actually thought it was strange as the name of the ship didnt have any Chinese reference??? and no countries mentioned in Wiki have anything to do with China neither...strange that the BBC allowed the comments to go to air!!! on a positive note: the engineering that goes into making those transport ships is incredible, i basically understand about the bouyancy that keeps them afloat but still mindboggling that these things float IMO. and on another positve note: the Suez Canal is an amazing piece of construction in its own right. looks like the US Navy could be sending its dredging experts to assist with the Suez Canal issue: https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/world/suez-canal-us-navy-to-send-expert-team-to-assist-with-stuck-ever-given-as-latest-refloating-attempt-fails/ar-BB1f0Omp?ocid=msedgntp RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - Jerome - 28-03-2021 Can you believe this crap. https://uk.yahoo.com/news/musical-notations-branded-colonialist-oxford-183556404.html In other words, the BLM movement are now complaining about having to learn the most complex and original music ever created and they should not have to learn it because it is 'colonialist'. What utter total crap. This is just pure laziness on the part of the student. It takes too much effort and it is so easy to blame music notation and theory on colonialist whites and why should the poor student, who no doubt is bi-polar, having mental health difficulties and suffering from PTSD have to actually make an effort to learn something. So the 'musicians' coming out of university with a degree do not really want to study music. They just want to make a noise and call it the 'new' art. Sorry kids, in order to create meaningful music you have to learn the ropes. Once you've done that you can change it any way you want, but you must have a basic understanding of the three main elements of music. Here's a hint - it's not rap, it's not hip hop and it sure as hell isn't some dude scratching vinyl on a turntable. Anyone WITHOUT a degree can do that and many have, and are still doing it. So where is the value in your degree then? What are you paying a university for if you don't want to study the medium and the structure? To teach you to make 'beats'. Jesus wept. Imagine an architect saying - Oh I just want to draw pictures of houses - I don't really want to know about the structural integrity of the building. So what if it falls down, it's not my fault. I'm an architect with a degree! RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-03-2021 in the words of the Willie Nelson/Waylon Jennings song.......its all going to pot! RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - Jerome - 29-03-2021 I remember reading about Japanese classical painters some time ago. They study colour for years before they are allowed to put brush to canvas. Now we have 'students' who want a degree in music to say they have mastered the discipline but don't want to learn the language of of the subject??!!?? RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - CRAZY-HORSE - 29-03-2021 the boat is afloat in the Suez Canal: https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/world/praise-god-ever-given-unstuck-and-moving-in-the-suez-canal/ar-BB1f3Z1c?ocid=msedgdhp |
