Even nice and polite Canada has skeletons in its' closets! The brutal treatment of aboriginal Canadians is well documented!

My hubby lost his job today, thanks to our friends South of the Border and I don't mean the Mason Dixon Line. The plant is moving down there. Great for him since he was about to retire anyway but for the younger folks not so great!!

What a shame Reb! I guess the only good thing is that your hubbie was ready to retire!!!! They went to Mexico, eh? Cheaper labour! It's a money game as usual! good old Free Trade....

Actually, my hubby was going to retire anyway in Dec. He got a great deal from the company. A whole year's pay and he can keep our insurance for a year. We are blessed!! Yep, Mexico. Like you said, cheaper labor. Free Trade is really hurting American workers!! The Mexicans who don't come here to take our jobs are getting them in Mexico. Just about all the contractors around here are hiring Mexicans. Feel sorry for the ones who have not reached retirement age at his job though. Just about all the plants around here have left for cheaper wages.

The great economic engine of the South was textiles...which they stole from New Englanders with cheaper wages and fewer employee protections, right-to-work laws chief among them. Those states in the North found a few ways to generate economic activity to replace what's lost; now it's the South's turn. What can you do better/faster/less costly than others? Turn to to that. On an anecdotal level, yes, there's a lot of pain before folks figure things out; in longer-term, meta-economic levels, maybe it's for the best.

Problem with Wilm., It's very expensive to live here. Now we probably have more Yanks living here than we do Rebs. The Yanks have sold their houses up North for a good price and moved down here for a house at a cheaper price then put the rest in the bank and opened up their own businesses or brought it down here with them (self employed). I know, a family of 7 moved across the street from us. With the Yanks coming down it eventually brought the prices of our real higher and higher. Most new houses here are filled with Yankees. Rebs can't afford them. Seems most of the businesses are run by Yanks and with the Mexicans being hired, Rebs can't hardly afford to live here especially with the plants moving out. We are dying out or poor!!

BTW, Wilm. has never been a wealthy town. Used to be just a country town surrounded by water. Very slowly enlarged. I have lived here most of my life. So whatever we stole didn't help us much. We have never had that many textiles. Most of our jobs have been low wage jobs even the textiles but back then prices were not as high. Then came along Free Trade which is taking what few good (such as my hubby's) jobs we do have out of here. So we have Never had it easy!!

I read on the Net that Monday is the last day to sign up for the Affordable HealthCare Act. Anyone know anything about this?

Oh MH, I've even heard Obama call it ObamaCare  That's true! But, getting back to my question the reason I was asking is because right now I have Blue Cross. My "agent" said since we don't make over 65,000 a year we qualify for assistance. We won't need any assistance however until Oct. 2015. I don't understand why they are cutting it off today? What about everyone else who may need help later? I will say even if we could get it I will Not take that chip
