shortlived british new wave outfit...had only a handful of chart entries in their homeland, this was their only chart entry here reaching #3...
not bad uptempo rhythm that probably could have been big in the discos back then...
"b" side is the same song but done slightly faster with fiddles included...
when i pulled this one out this morning i was cringing as to whether i would still like it, neednt have bothered though as it is still okay IMO

PAUL SIMON "50 ways to leave your lover" b/w "some folk's lives roll easy" 1975
im not a huge fan of Paul,Art or Paul and Art...i love 'graceland' and 'rhythm of the saints' albums and maybe a few singles but thats about it...
i like this "a" side but i dont love it...its good simplistic pop, "b" side is, however, one of those Paul songs i dont like, very little happening in that one IMO.
single only made it to #35 here, tought it would have got higher than that, what with the amount of airplay it still gets here...

IAN DURY "spasticus autisticus" b/w "spasticus autisticus(seven fun inches)" 1981
his first single minus The Blockheads...
Dury was crippled with polio as a child so in that respect this single makes a lot of sense...
the proceeds from this single went to charity for disabled kiddies in the UK, it didnt sell very well even in the UK it failed miserably, only made it to #50 here, but i guess thats about all it deserved really, used to like this one, dont like it much no more!

PATRICK HERNANDEZ "born to be alive" b/w "too many people" 1979
yeh...actually a disco song i like other than the Bee Gees material...
had sort of psuedo rock feel to it also, for disco, this has actually stood up fairly well over the decades IMO...
"b" side typical late seventies crap.
single made it all the way to #1 here just like it did everywhere else...

typical politically charged ska from Specials...
single details the decay in urban society under Thatcherism in the 1980s...
theres not many Specials songs i dont like, but both "b" side tracks fall into that catagory, unfortunately!
single reached #1 in the UK, but only #68 here in Australia

THE ROLLING STONES "time is on my side" b/w "congratulations" 1964
i know i say i dont like The Stones much but they did make quite a few singles that i do own and actually like...
this one,the "a" side, is superb Stones IMO, great stuff, "b" side, i dislike with a passion...
single got to #4 on our charts,probably deserved the top spot, but thats the way it rolls sometimes!

DR HOOK "the wild colonial boy" b/w "after the tears" 1980
this one was only released here in Australia(it may be available on cd,im not sure?),
the Dr's loved coming to Australia to tour and thought they would record this song(a traditional aussie folk song) whilst here in 1980, it was released as a single and made it to #4 on the charts...
this "a" side is the best version of this folk ballad i have ever heard, "b" side is typical Dr Hook.
please listen to this link, im sure you'll love it also and wonder why the heck this wasnt released universally!
