You could not make this up

A former Queenstown (Eastern Cape) town Councillor asked one of the present Councillors what the current state of affairs was regarding our water supply considering that we have not had much rain lately and were running low. He was told it was the fault of the ‘previous apartheid regime ’

When the previous Councillor asked how he worked that one out he replied.................

"You built the dams too big , so they take a long time to fill. You should have built them smaller, they would fill quicker and we would have plenty of water and never run out."........

The joys of the New South Africa.

LOL, Govt's all over the world are tarred with the same brush called "passing the buck" and blaming things that happened a generation ago previously...
and as much as I dislike Trump, he is a successful businessman, he may just throw out the bullcrap "redtape" and do something positive because he doesn't think
like a politician.

we have the same water issues here in Australia, and in West Australia inparticular...

there was an Aboriginal Member Of Parliament back in the 1980s called Ernie Bridge,
he foresaw the water problems we'd have with the growing population and came up with this notion that the Govt should build a pipeline from up in
the Kimberly region to pump fresh water 2,500 kms back to Perth to fill the dams, and also along the pipeline irrigate the land, create townships etc...
most thought he was an idiot at the time because it was going to cost some astronomical amount of of Govt coffers...
every so often, the idea gets bought up again but now, thirty years down the track the price is now tenfold what is was then...
it will never happen, but its one of those things that should be a State Govt priority,
but as usual, successive Govts have their own agendas and the pipeline is never one of them...

Have to say I agree with you again. I think Trump is a bit of a nut-ball myself, but I am so glad none of the regular 'career politicians' (i.e. people who talk a lot but actually do nothing - Obama, Clintons and every single politician in Ireland are some examples) never made it into office in the American election. It's time for a change. We do not need any more 'Talking Heads' - we need 'Thinking Ones' - currently in very short supply world-wide.

11 people killed in gun-related attacks in Chicago alone over the Xmas period. Mad!

I read somewhere around this time last year that in NYC over Christmas there was a 24hr period where there was not a single gun releated
murder in NYC, the police couldn't work out why it was so quiet....just shows you the mentality out there in those big cities...

as a footnote,
Yoko Ono mentioned in an interview on John's anniversary in early December that since his murder there have been over 1.2 million homicides
relating to firearms in the US since his passing, that figure doesn't count attempted murder, suicide, accidental shootings of hunting related shootings,
those figures are mind blowing to say the least,

but to be fair, when I was on the Horse-Head tour of the "southern states" with MH we never saw a single bit of violence, maybe we were lucky or not
in the wrong place at the right time???

I have a colleague at work who was in San Francisco a couple of years back staying with a friend of his who is a cop. In one weekend in Oakland there was about 40 shootings. I can't remember the exact number but I think it was 40 or so. I might have that figure wrong though. In SA apparently the murder rate for the country is near the 57 people a day mark. Madness.
