I wanted to join a music discussion website to see other peoples opinion on music aswell as give my own. I'm only 16 so i don't have a great knowledge for some older classic rock but i like to listen to my dads records like neil young, bob dylan, eric clapton, he is also a huge mike oldfield fan as well as other prog rock bands which has rubbed off on to me. But i mainly like rock from the 60s and 70s like hendrix, led zepplin, the who, t-rex, rolling stones.
As i say i'm only 16 and was hoping you guys could recommend some good artists i won't have heard of or albums that aren't quite as well known from the artists i already mentioned.
I really like folk music as well and listen to a lot of new music that is what i consider to be slightly original

It appears the Neil Young fans are taking over here! Maybe you should try listening to bands like Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains & Soundgarden if you havent already? Neil was a big influence on the grunge movement and even recorded an album with PJ in the mid 90s called 'Mirrorball' which is excellent.

Hi Alex, I'm new too.
Sounds like you have a bunch of great influences already. I love a lot of the artists you named. I've been listening to a lot of Crosby, Stills and Nash lately. If you're looking for "newer" folk kind of stuff, you could try:
- the band Guster. They are an acoustic band out of New England, USA. www.guster.com/
- Leslie Feist - a canadian singer-songwriter. You might know her song 1-2-3-4 from the iPod commercial a couple of years ago. www.listentofeist.com
- A completely different take on folk: the band rubyrough. The girl is a folk singer-songwriter and the guy is a sound designer. The folk songwriting style is still there and her vocals are pretty earthy, but the electronic stuff the guy does takes it to a different place. www.rubyrough.com
