NEW ALBUM: Seth Lakeman "a pilgrim's tale"

Spotify listen:

I have limited knowledge of this dude
only ever heard his previous album (a well worn path) which I purchased.
and I know Ruby has mentioned the dude on several occasions on MD.

UK folkie.
his instruments of choice are violin, viola and banjo, so you get the idea...

a concept album
all about the voyage of The Mayflower (which incidently happened 400 years ago).
tracks are intended to give a history lesson into the trip, the trials and tribulations of the crew
and passengers, the eventual meeting between the natives and the British.
Seth travelled to meet descendants of the original Native tribes to hear their stories as passed down
from generation to generation to get their side of what happened.
the result is a classy history lesson and traditional folk album.
as a footnote, there are two versions of the album, the one with the songs and a second version featuring
pre-song and post-song narration by British actor Paul McGann.
I listened to both versions, personally I preferred the one with narrative, but that's me.
I wouldn't say this album is a masterpiece but it is something that I could see Ian Anderson being able
to pull off in much the same way.
it is on my 'to purchase' list.

also, I don't really want to post a link to a solitary track because being a concept album it flows as a story
that would be like me reading one chapter of a novel and thinking im getting the whole narrative from that!
but anyway here is one track:

only track available with a clip (Hmmm, interesting to see a violin being played like a guitar??)

  Elvis Costello OBE
Posted by: CRAZY-HORSE - 15-02-2020, 23:28 - Forum: General Music - No Replies

he may not sell many records
nor is he a household name
and most people would be hard-pressed to remember anything by him other than Oliver's Army
but Declan McManus is highly respected amongst his peers.
he has played for Royalty, Prime Ministers and Presidents.
he has been inducted previously into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
and has several Grammy's under his belt including one gong won just this last week for his latest album Look Now.

he has been offered OBE's previously by the British Establishment on several occasions for his "services to music" and each time he has refused purely due to the whole Class system BS (being proud Working Class), like David Bowie and Paul Weller, but unlike those two
he has finally relented and graciously accepted his OBE from Prince Charles overnight.

NEW ALBUM: Tame Impala "the slow rush"

Spotify listen:

Kevin Parker is a very good friend of my daughter,
had the pleasure of having coffee with him on several occasions, nice dude
who is very well versed in lots of different styles of music and influenced by them all.
have his previous three albums,
the guy is a serious talent, plays all his own instruments/vocals,production etc
alternative-psychedelia is what it is.
not as commercially radio friendly as the last album, Currents. but still easy to swallow.
slick polished production, a bit to slick for my liking though.
bit too electronic also.,
not a bad album overall but I wouldn't get it unless it was on sale or in a discount bin just wouldnt
choose to pay full price for it.

favourite (the opening track)
