The production/ sample libraries are good quality but for me personally there is nothing really memorable in the melody. Don't get me wrong, you've done a good job, but it sounds just like all the other movie soundtracks you hear these days. There's nothing truly original or unique that stands out. These are 'stock' item sounds that are being used by everyone and as a result all the movie soundtracks are starting to sound the same. Is there a piece of film to accompany the piece.? One last point. Why does it mention a date in 2014 in the YT video?
i dont understand instrumentals in the slightest, but it sounded okay to me...

is this part of a soundtrack to a forthcoming motion-picture, as not only is there a 2014 date listed(as spotted by Jerome), but Anne Hathaway's name is mentioned at the top of the YT clip????
I agree with Jerome that most soundtracks are starting to sound the same. But it is very HARD to come out with originality when everything has been written. It's good, promising. Epic in character.
Hey B, I hear what you are saying but I disagree that it's hard to come up with something new. Most film composers are now using standard sample libraries (East West/VSL/Stormdrum etc. etc.) If you change the instrumentation - i.e. throw in an eclectic mix of sounds there is endless opportunity to experiment. The people in charge of music libraries have conditioned themselves to hear standard themes and instrumentation. If they switched off their memory banks for a minute and looked at the possibilities they would see/hear loads of new material that would work well in film and TV. They won't take a chance on different approaches.

Well said. But it's exactly your formamentis that allows you to see further than what's immediately attainable musically. To have original ideas you need to possess a measure of originality and independent thinking yourself. The truth is though, that lots of soundtracks sound far too similair for my taste. Your link is very interesting. It's building up on a repetitive theme making it extremely atmospheric. I enjoyed it. My idea of a very good, extremely original and incredibly orchestrated soundtrack? Michael Giacchino's brilliant Ratatouille's end credits. Great composer, as well orchestrated as a Ravel or a Mancini...
Ah, and I was forgetting...HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Had a listen to this - wonderful stuff! Love that section with the vibes. Great bass player too!

Here's another that I always go back to. http://youtu.be/J0i_II_ssE8
Truly touching. Sweet, not pretentious, but lovely. Nice choice Jerome.
