    Arrested Development - 3 Years, 5 Months And 2 Days In The Life Of.....1992 - **

Not rap but hip-hop. I didn't know. Debut album and a fine one it was. Title refers to the length of time it took them to land a record deal. Three singles released, Tennessee, People Everyday, and the top 10 Mr. Wendal. Grammy winners for best new artist. Got their first break when Spike Lee need a song for his upcoming Malcolm X film, resulting in Revolution. With 6 albums since the release of this one, they have yet to duplicate it's success.

    Favorite Track - Mr. Wendell

    Go ahead, man

    Here, have a dollar
In fact, no, brotherman, here have two
Two dollars means a snack for me
But it means a big deal to you

    Be strong, serve God only
Know that if you do beautiful heaven awaits
That's the poem I wrote for the first time
I saw a man with no clothes, no money, no plate

    Mr. Wendel, that's his name
No one ever knew his name cuz he's a no one
Never thought twice about spending on an old bum
Until I had the chance to really get to know one

Now that I know 'em to give him money isn't charity
He gives me some knowledge, I buy him some shoes
And to think blacks spend all their money on big colleges
Still most of you all come out confused

    Go ahead Mr. Wendel
    Go ahead Mr. Wendel

    Mr. Wendel has freedom
A free that you and I think is dumb
Free to be without the worries of a quick-to-diss society
    For Mr. Wendel's a bum

His only worries are sickness and an occasional harassment
By the police and their chase
"Uncivilized" we call him but I just saw him
Eat off the food we waste

    Civilization, are we really civilized?
Yes or no, who are we to judge?
    When thousands of innocent men
Could be brutally enslaved and killed over a racist grudge

Mr. Wendel has tried to warn us about our ways
But we don't hear him talk
Is it his fault when we've gone too far and we got too far
    Cuz on him we walk

Mr. Wendel - a man, a human in flesh, but not by law
I feed you dignity to stand with pride
Realize that all in all you stand tall
    Go ahead, Mr. Wendel

    Mr. Wendel, yeah
    Yeah, Mr. Wendel
    Mr. Wendel, yeah
    Lord

    Mr. Wendel

    Mr. Wendel
    Mr. Wendel, yeah
    Lord
    Mr. Wendel
    Mr. Wendel, yeah
    Lord
    Mr. Wendel

    Brother Ali - Us - 2009

Minnesota white muslim rappers 3rd album. Never heard the first 2, but this one's pretty good. Love them horns in Crown jewel. Live for my fav track, but terrible audio and not even the full song. I feel cheated. But damn, this is growing on me. Best new rap album I've heard in a long time.

    I like this album.

I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music

    Saigon - Warning Shots 2 - 2009

Fourth release from this NY gangster, ex-inmate. I'm not a stranger to raunchy lyrics but this was a little too crude for my taste, but if you like that kind of thing, fine. And to put a song about your brand new baby daughter on the same disc with some of this other subject matter is over the top to me. And of course every track is featuring somebody.

I do not like this album.

Favorite Track - Gotta believe It

    Whoa, oh
We keep rising to the top
    Whoa, oh
And keep eyes out for the cops
    Whoa, oh
And that's what it gon' be
    Whoa, oh
'Cause you ain't gon' stop me
They got you working two jobs, trying to make ends meet
You just trying to keep your kids off the street
You gotta believe it (Best believe it's a dream)
Oh, you better believe it (You too can achieve)
    Uh, oh
They got you locked in a hole, 19 years old
10 years, no chance for parole
They better believe it (That's right, tell them again)
Oh, you better believe it (After that, tell a friend)
    Whoa, oh

    [Verse 1:]
After the sunshine come the rain, after the fun time come the pain
I often wonder if it's gonna change
I caught a bad case of Smacking-Bitch-I-Itits (What happened?)
I came home, my wife got my daughter in shitty diapers (Damn)
The rice is still raw and the meat is still frozen in the freezer
I hate that I'm to close to her to leave her
Either I hit the street to do some pitching, knowing these dudes is snitching
Or die trying to make it as a musician
My living condition is not in the greatest condition (Nope)
And nah, I ain't bitching, I just gotta make a decision
Should I breeze past, hop out in a ski mask
Rob everything moving and cruise in a G-Class (Vroom)
But keep writing the heat that the street like it
Youngings is reciting my lyrics, so keep biting
Y'all niggas is thinking shit is easy, it's hard
One thing I know I'm a do is keep believing in God

[Chorus: Red 5ive (Adlibs - Saigon)]
    Whoa, oh
We keep rising to the top
    Whoa, oh
And keep eyes out for the cops
    Whoa, oh
And that's what it gon' be
    Whoa, oh
'Cause you ain't gon' stop me
They got you working two jobs, trying to make ends meet
You just trying to keep your kids off the street
You gotta believe it (Best believe it's a dream)
Oh, you better believe it (You too can achieve)
    Uh, oh
They got you locked in a hole, 19 years old
10 years, no chance for parole
You better believe it (That's right, tell them again)
Oh, you better believe it (After that, tell a friend)
    Whoa, oh

    [Verse 2:]
After the fast songs come the slow, after the sad songs come some more (More)
This is the life I have come to know
Police is in Marquis', Chevy Caprices stroll
The young, hood boogers idolize Keyshia Cole
The rap figures throwing money in the air like it's pizza dough
People in the hood ain't eating though (Though)
I tried to help the labels see the vision
But they lowered me to a subdivision, you gotta be ******* kidding
They'd rather me pretend to be something I'm not
I'm the new Public Enemy, I'm different than Yung Joc
And nah, I ain't dissing, this nigga's up in the Forbes
Shit, I ain't made a dollar trying to rap for the cause
[ Saigon Lyrics are found on Lyrics ]
But in these next four bars, I'll tell you about Maleverly Laws
They enforcing on North American shores
Dog, if they can have rifles on their farms
Then I don't see why they knocked T.I. for trying to bear arms

[Chorus: Red 5ive (Adlibs - Saigon)]
    Whoa, oh
We keep rising to the top
    Whoa, oh
And keep eyes out for the cops
    Whoa, oh
And that's what it gon' be
    Whoa, oh
'Cause you ain't gon' stop me
They got you working two jobs, trying to make ends meet
You just trying to keep your kids off the street
You gotta believe it (Best believe it's a dream)
Oh, you better believe it (You too can achieve)
    Uh, oh
They got you locked in a hole, 19 years old
10 years, no chance for parole
They better believe it (That's right, tell them again)
Oh, you better believe it (After that, tell a friend)
    Whoa, oh

    [Verse 3:]
Tell them wave at the artist, I feel like I'll make it regardless
Don't forget I'm the ex-con that made it the farthest (Yup)
Until the day that I lay with the martyrs
Or until the day I'm parlaying, playing with my sons and my daughters
I'mma remain the smartest, hardest working nigga in the business
Just Blaze, can I get a witness (Yessir)
See that they probably get it if I come out flop
Get dropped, go back to my block and get shot (Pop)
As they putting my body in that life-size Ziplock
Then you'll be saying "Damn, Giddy died for this hip-hop"
Or maybe it entail you to get locked
To another 20 in the rock for them to give me my props
    Whatever the case may be
We do a census on who is the sickest lyricist, they say me
That's without a album out, y'all rated me
I drop one and I'mma bow out gracefully

[Chorus: Red 5ive (Adlibs - Saigon)]
    Whoa, oh
We keep rising to the top
    Whoa, oh
And keep eyes out for the cops
    Whoa, oh
And that's what it gon' be
    Whoa, oh
'Cause you ain't gon' stop me
They got you working two jobs, trying to make ends meet
You just trying to keep your kids off the street
You gotta believe it (Best believe it's a dream)
Oh, you better believe it (You too can achieve)
    Uh, oh
They got you locked in a hole, 19 years old
10 years, no chance for parole
They better believe it (That's right, tell them again)
Oh, you better believe it (After that, tell a friend)
    Whoa, oh

    [Bridge: Red 5ive]
    Keep, keep, keep rising
    Whoa, oh
    Keep, keep, keep rising
    Whoa, oh
    Keep, keep, keep rising
    Whoa, oh
    Keep, keep, keep rising
    Whoa, oh

    [Outro: Red 5ive]
    Wooo!
    We on the radio [x6]

    Immortal Technique - Revolutionary, Vol. 2 - 2003

Second album released by political activist rapper Immortal Technique, born in Lima, Peru but from Harlem, NY. I L-O-V-E his style, he combines a certain eloquence with bringin his message hard and as real as it gets. Not too wordy but definitely not your average rapper. If you like music with a message or just good stuff, this whole album is pretty righteous. He does curse though - in case you might get offended. He doesn't tone it down. Every other word isn't a curse word but he still raps in a way some people might find offensive.

Fav song on the album? (Really a tie between 4th Branch and You Never Know but there's only so much room ;0 )

    The 4th Branch

A new age is upon us
And yet the past refuses to rest in its shallow grave
For those who hide behind the false image of the son of man shall stand before God!!!
    It has begun
    The beginning of the end
    Yeah..
    Yeah... yeah, yeah

The voice of racism preaching the gospel is devilish
A fake church called the prophet Muhammad a terrorist
Forgetting God is not a religion, but a spiritual bond
And Jesus is the most quoted prophet in the Qu'ran
They bombed innocent people, tryin' to murder Saddam
When you gave him those chemical weapons to go to war with Iran
This is the information that they hold back from Peter Jennings
Cause Condoleeza Rice is just a new age Sally Hemmings
I break it down with critical language and spiritual anguish
The Judas I hang with, the guilt of betraying Christ
You murdered and stole his religion, and painted him white
    Translated in psychologically tainted philosophy
    Conservative political right wing, ideology
Glued together sloppily, the blasphemy of a nation
Got my back to the wall, cause I'm facin' assassination
    Guantanamo Bay, federal incarceration
How could this be, the land of the free, home of the brave?
Indigenous holocaust, and the home of the slaves
Corporate America, dancin' offbeat to the rhythm
You really think this country, never sponsored terrorism?
Human rights violations, we continue the saga
El Salvador and the contras in Nicaragua
And on top of that, you still wanna take me to prison
Just cause I won't trade humanity for patriotism

It's like MK-ULTRA, controlling your brain
Suggestive thinking, causing your perspective to change
They wanna rearrange the whole point of view of the ghetto
The fourth branch of the government, want us to settle
A bandanna full of glittering, generality
Fighting for freedom and fighting terror, but what's reality?
Read about the history of the place that we live in
And stop letting corporate news tell lies to your children

Flow like the blood of Abraham through the Jews and the Arabs
Broken apart like a woman's heart, abused in a marriage
The brink of holy war, bottled up, like a miscarriage
Embedded correspondents don't tell the source of the tension
And they refuse to even mention, European intervention
Or the massacres in Jenin, the innocent screams
    U.S. manufactured missiles, and M-16's
Weapon contracts and corrupted American dreams
Media censorship, blocking out the video screens
A continent of oil kingdoms, bought for a bargain
Democracy is just a word, when the people are starvin'
The average citizen, made to be, blind to the reason
A desert full of genocide, where the bodies are freezin'
And the world doesn't believe that you fightin' for freedom
Cause you fucked the Middle East, and gave birth to a demon
It's open season with the CIA, bugging my crib
Trapped in a ghetto region like a Palestinian kid
Where nobody gives a **** whether you die or you live
I'm tryin' to give the truth, and I know the price is my life
But when I'm gone they'll sing a song about Immortal Technique
Who beheaded the President, and the princes and sheiks
You don't give a **** about us, I can see through your facade
Like a fallen angel standing in the presence of God
Bitch niggaz scared of the truth, when it looks at you hard

It's like MK-ULTRA, controlling your brain
Suggestive thinking, causing your perspective to change
They wanna rearrange the whole point of view in the ghetto
The fourth branch of the government, want us to settle
A bandanna full of glittering, generality
Fighting for freedom and fighting terror, but what's reality?
Martial law is coming soon to the hood, to kill you
While you hanging your flag out your project window

    Yeah..
The fourth branch of the government AKA the media
Seems to now have a retirement plan for ex-military officials
As if their opinion was at all unbiased
A machine shouldn't speak for men
So shut the **** up you mindless drone!
    And you know it's serious
When these same media outfits are spending millions of dollars on a PR campaign
To try to convince you they're fair and balanced
When they're some of the most ignorant, and racist people
Giving that type of mentality a safe haven
We act like we share in the spoils of war that they do
We die in wars, we don't get the contracts to make money off 'em afterwards!
We don't get weapons contracts, nigga!
We don't get cheap labor for our companies, nigga!
    We are cheap labor, nigga!
Turn off the news and read, nigga!
    Read... read... read...
