I just finished "Survivor" by Chuck Palahniuk. I'm about to buy "Sailor Who Fell From Gace With the Sea" by Yukio Mishima.

What did you think of Survivor? I read it earlier this year and got quite the kick out of it personally. I loaned it to a lady friend after finishing it and she still hasn't gotten past the beginning (or ending depending on how you'd like to phrase that one). I have a feeling that I may not see that book again.

I've just finished The Thieves of Ostia by Caroline Lawrence.

It's a crime mystery set in Ostia - ancient Rome's port - in AD79. Whilst obviously aimed at children and young adults, it compares very well with the books about Gordanius the Finder and Marcus Didius Falco, two other Roman sleuths.

I really enjoyed Survivor. I thought it was really clever and very over the top in a hilarious, postmodern way. I also sympathized with Tender Branson the entire time. It was a very good book... Once I have read some more of the books I have lined up, I plan to check out some of Palahniuk's other books.
