Adele's album '21' has become the biggest selling LP in the US in 2011.

Her second LP clocked up 5.82 million copies last year in America. The singer's hit 'Rolling In The Deep' was also the biggest selling single after it was downloaded by 5.81 million people, according to data, compiled by Nielsen Soundscan

Adele's album became the first to sell more than five million copies in a year in the US since 2004, towards the end of last year before the final tally came in.

She also kicked off 2012 at the summit of the US Billboard 200 chart for the 14th non-consecutive week running. It is the first album to spend the most weeks at the top since the Titanic movie soundtrack spent 16 weeks there 14 years ago.

Meanwhile, the singer is also on course to reclaim the Number One spot in the Official UK Albums Chart this Sunday (January 8).

If she remains at the summit this weekend, the album will celebrate its 19th non-consecutive week at Number One and will become the UK's longest-topping album in over 40 years.
