I think that often fate, is a strange master...............A chance meeting in 2008 and three years later one finds oneself with a firm friendship with a writer poet and musician.
So, last Wednesday, after a bit of planning and a few smsís a car rolls into my courtyard and quietly parks alongside the guests that we currently have.
Most regular visitors to MD know, that one of the aspects of my life is running a B and B on an island situated in The River Maas. It was an ambition and dream to run an outstanding place that would mirror the beauty and atmosphere of my home county of Yorkshire in the UK. An island in the Maas is never going to mirror the rolling beauty of the Yorkshire dales for hills and valleys but the quiet tranquil approach of being surrounded in nature and beautiful scenery is a common factor. The rest, spirituality and peace of being alone in a quiet area of outstanding beauty are the same in both.
My friend is in the middle of his return to the Netherlands tour which has been going well. He has been on the road for our forty years and to him it is a way of life. However, there are moments when it is great to leave it all being a few hours and take it easy.
So what do we have in common? Well we both share a common love of nature music and the rotation of nature around the Seasons.
We know each other well enough to have removed the star and fan approach..............although I was able to restore four Magna Carta tracks to his had that I had recently found.( strange what you can come across in life!).
Chris is a great story teller and the tales he can tell of what is happening to him on the current tour and of his past adventures are great. He often wonders if he should write them down in a book but believes that he would find himself with legal problems if the other parties did not wish things to be disclosed.
In the middle of a the preamble to dinner, he looks at me and asks can I do him a favour? I enquire what it might been and over our second glass of Chardonnay is discover that we are going to play host to a radio interview with a Dutch radio station. Donít worry he says ďIíll promote your B and B at the same time !Ē
So, I go on with the arrangements for a venison, roast potato and two veg dinner with a phone on the table and a simple anticipation.
We eat and on the stroke of nine, the phone rings and we are in business...................
I pick up my camera and .................
The next twenty minutes are excellent entertainment and live over The Netherlands.
We hear plenty about Magna and there is some great feedback about how well the tour is going and the regard the host has for the music and the band.
The evening goes on and we are out until two in the morning with the conversation going on....For those who read this so far I pick up a coup but Iíll not reveal t until it happens but it could be a first for MD , to be the first to break some news of the music world. Then Iím off to bed for three hours and work. After which Iím back at twelve to serve breakfast...............................
Next move to see he last concert of he tour on 29 Oct
