Guitarists: who's style do you emulate the most?
For those of you who play guitar, what famous guitarist do you seem to copy the most? Or are you a totally unique player, and you have your own sound?
As much as I'm a fan of The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin etc, I tend to play a more thrash style influenced by Metallica. Basically, I abuse the pentatonic scale. I also play a lot of thrash style riffs.
i play a couple of buddy holly, beatles songs, along with several neil young things and the who's "substitute" all very badly, i must say, but i try and have fun, its good when it works and i manage to get the chords/notes right without stuffing up.
i have made up my own riffs, i like them, i doubt anyone else does...my neighbours dont appreciate the noise i make.
i taught myself online and from begginers books,i dont know what the chords are called,i just copy the pictures in tutorials, and i cant emulate anyone as i cant even be 'me' yet LOL

Hey CH - the way to 'unlock' the instrument is to learn basic scales - then start playing along to your favourite pieces - and you will find over time that eventually your fingers 'remember' where to go and you will also develop an ability to improvise. Anyone can play anything if they are physically able to do so. The biggest stumbling block is the brain. I remember a story about a guy who was in some kind of accident - severe brain trauma - survived it and started playing the piano (complex pieces) without ever having played before. You just have to find the right button in the brain. We don't even realise what we are capable of.....the ghost in the machine!
