Florida-post grunge outfit Atom Smash play emotionally charged hard rock centered around the lead vocals of Sergio Sanchez. In 2006, Sanchez and songwriter/producer Paul Trust began working together on material. Two years later, they had added Austrian-born guitarist Alex "Z" Zilinksi and drummer Mark "Taco" Annino. Bassist Arnold Nese and guitarist Luke Rice followed suit and Atom Smash spent the better part of 2009 touring and playing over 200 live shows. The band eventually signed with Jive and released its debut album, Love Is in the Missile in August of 2010.

Album Review

A modern rock band built around the supernova superstar Sergio Sanchez — the only member of the quintet minus a catch nickname apart from bassist Arnold Nesz — Atom Smash pretties up the sound of the ‘90s on their debut Love Is in the Missile. And this isn’t the gnarled grunge of the ‘90s, either — it’s the smoothed-out, beefed-up post-grunge that followed, anything that happened between Bush and Third Eye Blind. Atom Smash never gets as nimble as Stephan Jenkins’ crew (nor do they get as pretentious) but they surely are on the commercial side of things, singing about rocked worlds and lost loves. Paramore producer David Bendeth keeps the group from wallowing in nostalgia but the intent is to play to tweens and their moms, to kind of be the Twilight of Florida rock bands, and they kind of succeed: Sanchez and his power-rock are attractive enough to appeal to both ends of the spectrum because they never once seem dangerous, they merely offer the appearance of being bad boys but none of the substance.
