Anyone else familiar with these guys?
"Electro.Techno/House" seems to be the only section of the board that's appropriate for them, but while most music of that genre either boreas me or just serves as plasant audio wallpaper, I absolutely love this band.
Three guys from Melbourne, who play a variety of instruments run through samplers and various kinds of electronic processes;
Active since about 2007, though fairly quiet the last couple of years;
The music is completely danceable, however it is anything but your standard house/disco fare. Firstly, some of the melodies are quite unorthodox. Then we have the lyrical themes: space travel and science fiction in general, fantasy, technological future shock, social problems and social breakdown.... you won't find any "Get your body down on the dance floor" or "Let's make love baby" themes here. The singer's articulation is not always the clearest, yet it hardly seems to matter much; it matches the flow of the music well.
They are also heavily into the visual medium as a means of complementing the music, and their light show was part of the Vivid festival in Sydney a couple of years ago.
They also have a slightly daffy sense of humour. the video for their song "Ballad of the War Machine" was full of old Soviet television footage and was part of an elaborate hoax, apparently successfully fooling many Russian viewers that they were seeing a resurrected TV segment from the Soviet era. they have their own label, Siberia Records. They apparently have a thing about Russia.
I've seen them twice live. The first was good, the second not so good, but that was hardly their fault; the venue was really quite unsuitable sonically for a band of that nature. I'd like to see them in an outdoor concert setting sometime.
