Hatebreed is a Grammy Award-nominated hardcore band from Bridgeport and New Haven, Connecticut. The band was founded in November 1994 by Jamey Jasta, Dave Russo, Larry Dwyer, and Chris Beattie. The current lineup is Jamey Jasta (lead vocals), Frank "III Gun" Novinec (guitar), Chris Beattie (bass guitar), Wayne Lozinak (lead guitar), and Matt Byrne (drums). Hatebreed's sound can be classified as metallic hardcore-era metalcore, taking influences from death metal[1] and groove metal. Their sound also has influenced modern metalcore bands.

Hatebreed had previously announced that in addition to their cover album For the Lions, they would release their fifth studio album in 2009. On August 24, they premiered "In Ashes They Shall Reap" on their official MySpace. On August 27, they unveiled the artwork for the new album. On September 4, the music video for "In Ashes They Shall Reap" was released. Then on September 10 RoadRunner Records UK released track 13 off the new record entitled, "Merciless Tide" for a free download. On September 21, the track Everyone Bleeds Now is now streaming on their official MySpace. Slipknot's drummer Shawn Crahan will also be working on a few selected tracks as well as touring with them this winter. The new album will also feature Megadeth's lead guitarist Chris Broderick who offered to play with them on "Through the Thorns" due to his liking of how their music has evolved.

Hatebreed is the fifth studio album from American hardcore punk band Hatebreed. The album was released on September 29, 2009. Frontman Jamey Jasta had this to say regarding the new album: "This is our fifth studio album and it's a monster! We've survived some pretty rough times and the music shows it. There was no reason to change the recipe that our fans know and love but we added a few brutal new ingredients and we're more than amped on the results. Violence is a given!

album review from all music guide

A mere four months after the release of a covers album, For the Lions, New Haven's Hatebreed offers their first truly new album in three years. This self-titled offering, the band's fifth, is the first outing to feature both new guitarists — Frank Novinec, who joined in 2006, and newcomer Wayne Lozinak. In addition, drummer Matt Byrne replaced original skin man Rigg Ross, making vocalist Jamey Jasta and bassist Chris Beattie the only two founding members. Despite the new members, the sound is crafted around almost exactly the same formula that has made the band such a sought-after attraction on the metalcore circuit. In the summer of 2009,they shared stages all over the world with Slipknot, Slayer, and Korn, as well as having preferred lineup spots in many music festivals. With this CD, faster, downtuned hardcore is melded to slower, more decidedly doom-laden death metal moments — check the surprisingly retro but utterly killer instrumental "Undiminished" — all played with extreme technical flare, stop-and-start cadences and call-and-response choruses. The rest of these 15 tracks range from headbanging anthems such as the opener, "Become the Fuse," to Hatebreed's trademark, bone-cracking heaviness in "Everyone Bleeds Now," and pummeling riff-laden hardcore in "Merciless Tide." As a bonus, there is an edit of "Escape" tacked on at the end of the set.
