have you guys ever heard a song done by some band you haven't heard before and then you think the band is great... right up to where you listen to any more of their stuff. give me a few examples!! i cannot stand being teased by the elegance of one song only to be let down by any other following song by the same artist. ............. kinda like cult of personality by living color or possess your heart by death cab for cutie or even supermassive black hole by muse... gibe me some warning to some bands that are like this so i don't have to buy their cd to get that one song!! (internet not fast enough to listen to music)
Welcome to the music business.
I have always had mixed feelings about the album concept. In terms of quality, it only worked for a tiny handful of bands and albums. For most of the rest, it was exploited by the record companies so they could make you pay $10-$15 for two good songs and a bunch of filler.
Nowadays, you can download individual songs, watch videos online, etc., so there are more alternatives to buying an album and tossing it in a corner of your basement.
Serial Under Achiever
I don't have a basement, and if I did, I certainly wouldn't be caught throwing any of my precious collection in a corner of it...
Worst offender that I can recall is buying the Dan Reed Network album Slam, having loved the Rainbow Child single. The rest of the album isn't my cup of tea at all. Think I'll give it a play to see if it's still pants.
I'd have to say Third Eye Blind.
They have two amazing songs, Jumper and Semi-Charmed Life.
But I started to listen to some of their other stuff, and I didn't like it at all.
I'm very selective and I'd say there will never be any band whose songs are all listenable. I'd buy the whole album in order to listen to a song that I happen to like.
Owner of a lonely heart - Yes.
BTW I hate this song.
How do you feel regarding the talent shows on the telly affecting the one hit wonders? I think it is worse.
Tubthumping - Chumbawamba
