Pop star Justin Bieber was arrested early Thursday in Miami Beach, Fla. on suspicion of DUI after drag racing with friends, according to police. The Miami Beach Police Department confirmed the arrest on its official Twitter page and later said the singer resisted arrest and had an expired license.
According to an official police report, a police officer observed two Lamborghinis speeding north on Pine Tree Drive in Miami Beach at around 4:00 am on Thursday morning, with two black SUV's trailing behind them. Bieber was going so fast that it took a significant amount of time to catch up with him. Bieber was driving a yellow Lamborghini and was racing a red car of the same make. The officer watched both vehicles "start a contest of speed (drag racing)," estimating that the Lamborghinis were traveling 55-60 MPH in a residential area with a speed limit of 30 MPH.
After multiple officers initiated a traffic stop, police asked Bieber to place his vehicle in park, and the singer began to state, "Why did you stop me." The police report states that the officer "immediately smelled an odor of alcohol emanating from the driver's breath and bloodshot eyes. The driver had slow deliberate movements and a stuper look on his face."
When asked to exit the vehicle, Bieber stated, "Why the **** are you doing this?" As Bieber stepped out of the car and started to go into his pants pockets, the officer asked him multiple times to take his hands out of his pockets and put his hands on the vehicle. Upon complying, Bieber was given a cursory patdown, and stated, "I ain't got no ******* weapons, why do you have to search me, what the **** is this about?"
After being told that he would be arrested if he removed his hands from the vehicle, Bieber turned around, upon which the officer grabbed his right hand and told him he was under arrest. Bieber tried to pull him right arm away, and was eventually placed into custody with the assistance of another officer. He was given a sobriety test, which he failed.
He was booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail on $2,500 bond will be charged with DUI, resisting arrest without violence and driving with an expired Georgia driver's license.
The driver of the other Lamborghini, R&B singer Khalil Sharief, was also arrested and will be charged with DUI.
