iTunes top 10
I am writing this thread because i want to hear feedback from fellow music lovers on this subject.
Every time i go onto iTunes and glance over at the top 10, i am disgusted! Not in a "i hate rap, hiphop, and pop" but because it represents what is the dominating type of music in the US. most of us already know that most of the very popular music today has been totally produced through the studio, auto-tuned to death, and marketed like crazy. then it is fed to the zombie masses on iTunes who will eat it up and praise it without seriously contemplating why they love it and why it sells like Bigmacs.
I am constantly wondering why you never see a hit song from the any alternative or indie bands. in fact, it doesn't even have to be some underground band like Sufjian stevens or radiohead (i know everyone knows them, but they are the biggest underground band ever, lol). why can't a hit song from Rise Against, Arctic monkeys, kaiser chiefs, or anything get on the top10!
Instead of that, we have the Black eyed peas, Miley Cyrus, and Lady Gaga staying on the top10 for weeks! absolutely nothing wrong with them, everyone is entitled to their own music but this kind of music has been dominating iTunes.
Ok, please feel free to express your feelings, agreements, disagreements, etc. i would love to hear feedback
Serial Under Achiever
both the Kaiser Chiefs & the Arctic Monkeys have had a slew of Top 10 singles & albums in the UK.
Chart positions, and chart music, are largely irrelevant IMHO...
Why are you concerned about what is at the top of the charts? I guess what I'm saying is, "Who cares what the masses like?". Do you want bands and artists that you like to sell more downloads?
Terms like "alternative" and "indie" were/are used because the acts they describe don't appeal to the mainstream. And therefore don't sell as many CDs/records/downloads.
thanks for the feedback, its nice to hear some different perspectives.
i guess what i want, in response to both of you is, is for the music i enjoy (and think has better musical quality) to be more accepted by the masses in the US, not just UK. i think the UK has better musical taste than the US.
then again, if that "alternative/indie" music did become mainstream it would lose that 'underground' quality and i would probably stop liking it.
but in other sense, how awesome would it be if people starting downloading Kaiser Chiefs and Arctic monkeys over brittney, flo rida or black eyed peas.
