How much does music influence you and your behaviour? does it do that at all? i was thinking about this and i have heard people say that music cheers them up, gets them "pumped" <---something to do with excercise?...
Rappers complain that the violent referance in some of thier song does not attribute to increasing violance among certain commuities. are these commuities using music as a bail out, as some sort of excuss for the way they feel they should act?
looking at main music genres (this is not to diminaish the others) they all have a dress code, attitude etc. does this come from the music? or from the listeners?
so basically does music change you?

I'm sure music influences me in more ways than I'm aware. In terms of affecting my behaviour, I'd have to say certainly. How can anyone who absorbs others' opinions by way of lyrics not be moulded, to some extent, by them ?? Similarly, instrumental music has to affect how we think and feel, or why would we bother ??
Does music influence behavior to the extent that listening to Gangsta Rap will turn listeners into gun toting, sexist twats ?? Of course not, although the music may play a part.
Does listening to Ozzy, or Judas Priest turn teenagers into suicide cases ?? No. I think it's more a case of a psychological profile in search of a sympathetic musical sensibility.
I may be wrong...
I don't think music changes me. I think it just enforces or enhances how I am already feeling or thinking. I think this is true for most anyone. It is like alcohol - being intoxicated is not an excuse for taking some action. It did not make you do something. It just removed an inhibition.
