Trends in Music
Where and in what direction do you all see music heading? Short term/Long Term... Do you see music reverting back to the roots? Progressing forward? Both? I am interested in seeing what you all think about this... Also what is your favorite/ideal set-up for a band/act? Do you perfer one man and a guitar? A 3-piece acoustic or electric act? etc...

Where it's heading? No clue
That's what makes it interesting.
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees
Send me off forever but I ask you please

Both.
It's amazing to me that musicians seem to be able to find new & exciting ways to expand on tried & trusted methods, or - to a lesser extent - to create entirely new styles & sounds.
That's the beauty of music, that the quest to find the best of new music & the best of what's gone before is a near-impossible task. So much to explore...
I don't think there's an optimum for numbers of performers.

Music has & will always be.. UNPREDICTABLE!!

Thanks to Dream Theater, my number 1 band, i'm seeing a lot of prog metal coming onto the scene lately.
There are a few problems I've tried to figure out when listening to new bands in the genre. 1. Prog Metal Sucks: Therefore most of these bands are on the level where their music should be and Dream Theater are just freaking amazing. 2. Prog Metal Rocks: Dream Theater defined the genre with amazing songs and incredible musicianship, other bands can't pull it off.
It's all relative, DT rocks the block. But the main thing is that I'm finding bands out there now that have no originality to them. The musicians on the scene are very proficient and try and master their idols ability, the same time copying their style. Has music always been like this? One Shepard and a thousand sheep?
What we need to see is more people who rock at doing their own thing. Better yet we need to put the spotlight on those who are but not so much as to cast a shadow on the bands around them.

'Twas ever thus !!
I'm a Floyd fan, and wasted years trying to find something similar. It isn't out there, and once I'd figured that out I got on with looking for different music.
The trick lies in developing your tastes so that you can slip into the mindset of whoever is playing, and try to listen from that perspective. Sort of tuning into the music. Derivative music is fine if you're not listening to it judged against the standards of a favourite artist

That's very true but it's hard not to compare, especially in art! These guys over here did this and those guys did that. What made these guys so good and why aren't those guys accredited with anything? It is tragic how people are put up against the wall with others.

I think there will always be the half which will hold dear the classical music. The rest will flow in ways we can't even imagine. Check some of today's tabla players compared to 50 years ago; or today's flamenco guitarists compared to 50 years ago and so on.

Hi, Im CRYSTAL GARRISON.
Im 18 and for an college history project, me and 2 other friends, one boy and one boy, have to make a short talking movie about the 1920's. We want it to be funny, but not silly, short, and creative. It can't do with the Great Depression because that started in 1929-1930.
Some suggestions:Flappers, prohibition, gangsters (al capone), music, trends.
Please help!!!!!!!
