Extreme metal!!!
What do you all think of extreme genres of metal - such as Thrash metal, Death metal, Black metal or some of the harder forms of Doom metal?
Slayer are one of my favourite metal bands and probably my number one metal band.
I also love classic death metal bands such as Death, Obituary and Morbid Angel.
I don't like Black metal so much but I do like Mayhem's classic album 'De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas'.

Grumpy Old Man
I don't like it, but I try.
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees
Send me off forever but I ask you please
Don't fence me in

I'm disinterested, and I'm afraid to say that I don't try.
I've nothing against any genre of music, but some are very much on the periphery of my tastes. Metal (of any sort), & Hip Hop are the two chief culprits.
Would never say never, but I don't think those two genres will ever be more than a puzzle to me...

Yes, on occasion.
I personally don't consider thrash metal to be "extreme".
Giving Ihsahn's (former lead singer of Emperor) new album After a listen right now. It has it's moments. Unfortunately he occasionally uses clean vocals and is that acoustic guitar on the song Undercurrent? Yuck!

I think Thrash metal isn't so extreme but i like all genre of metal
Mors Principium Est, Gojira, Dagoba and Dimmu Borgir are my favourite metal bands
Today, I've discovered a French band, they aren't so great but I really enjoy their music ... I think it could be a new metal genre...

About Thrash. I think the matter is complicated by the huge range of stuff that's called thrash metal.
Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth are aguably not all that extreme. It's basically like Iron Maiden but faster and with those muted chords.
But stuff like Slayer and Kreator is a lot harder and a lot darker and it influenced Death metal and Black metal. I'd argue that this harder, darker form of thrash is a form of extreme metal.

I listen primarily to Extreme Metals. More specifically, a lot of Death Metals, particularily Technical/Brutal. Thrash I've never really cared for as it's really nothing more than an overhyped and all around inferior predecessor to Death and Black. I listen to soem Black, but don't really go too far into it, I do like me some Shining, Immortal, and early Gorgoroth, though, and a couple of my favorite bands use Black Metal as a base genre (Anaal Nathrakh and Unexpect especially). I like Black Metal as a whole, I just haven't really taken the time to really get into it. Doom I really like. Death/Doom and Funeral Doom are some of my favorite musics. Tyranny, Worship, and Swallow the Sun are some of my favorite Doom bands, though I listen to A LOT of Funeral Doom, haven't really found any of it I didn't like.

^ I really don't listen to enough metal to follow all of what you're talking about. But, it does seem to make you one of the biggest metalheads on here. Have you seen the new documentary Until the Light Takes Us? It features interviews with Gylve “Fenriz” Nagell (Darkthrone) and Varg Vikernes (Burzum). It's supposed to be an amazing overview of Norwegian black metal fifteen years after the scene erupted.
I have recently reacquainted myself with metal. In addition to Ihsahn I've been listening to Krallice, Grails, and Eagle Twin. And I've never stopped listening to Sunn O))) or Isis.
