It would be hard to classify Pop in almost anyones favorite I think. Mainly, because Pop is usually associated with a specific time period or trend and doesn't really continue on well. Where as Rock, Metal, etc usually speaks to the listener about there lifestyle or train of thought or emotions. Allowing each song to carry with you for a longer period of time, if not life.

Usually, but I think it's important to distinguish between pop as an artistic form or genre and manufactured/disposable pop. In more concrete terms, it's the difference between the Beatles' music, a handfull of great pop songs by other artists, and the remaining 99% of pop music, which is like you say: reflecting short-term trends, tastes, and commercial interests rather than breaking new ground or aiming for quality songs that stand the test of time.

I see nothing wrong with sweet, catchy, melodic songs per se, so long as they're good, and don't make me want to rip my ears off or strangle the singer.

agreed. Although I think we are talking about the difference of what is written as pop and what becomes pop. The Beatles IMO were a rock band. They became pop sensations.

I put other cause I think that " alternative" does not have the meaning I expect.

I like experimental a lot, whatever it means. Also I like a lot a genre wich most call "New age" but I think it does not helps either.

I am a composer and my music could be classified as "Instrumenal electronic smooth new age experimental introspective absolute..."

The genre thingy is always confuse to the artist.

I have mostly rock in my library, but I put Alt &Indie because I like it more than I do rock.

    Default Diversity..

I think that it is important to recognize talent, regardless of the genre. It really depends on the mood that i'm in; but i love rap, rock, metal, jazz, r&b...
