Thread: My New Album Release Listenings for 2010

This thread is a list of the albums released in 2010 that I have listened to, along with my assigned rating. I have posted each of these albums in the appropriate genre "Listening To" threads. My rating system is pretty simple. I assign a rating of 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 or 3.0 to each track on an album, then average that rating for an overall grade. This grade partially determines my purchases for the year. I divide those ratings into 3 categories. A rating of 2.4 to 3.0 means I will pay full price for this cd. A rating of 1.7 to 2.3 means I will purchase it, but only at a reduced price. A rating below 1.7 means I will not purchase this cd, even with Tiggi's money. Obviously these are not the only purchases I will make throughout the year, but my primary go to list. I will post each month at the end of the month.

Note: I am not vain enough to think you care about my music ratings. I am doing this for my own benefit. This is something I have done over the years and what better place to track it than here at the #1 music discussion site on the internet. If it sparks some debate or you get some laughs along the way, we're all the better for it.

Get a lot of listening done when you get up between 3-4 am.

No music I prefer listening to than something I've never heard before.

Pretty extensive list! I'm surprised Dillinger Escape Plan was rated 1.2. You should take another listen on headphones. It's amazingly insightful stuff, just awkward to listen to with other people if they are not used to intense music.

Headphones is the way to understand it. Good on you for checking out so much new music! Keep posting!

I saw where you gave Dillinger a thumbs up in the new cd release thread for their album. I have also seen where the album is getting good reviews from the music press. Sorry to say that genre is just not my thing. Obviously my ratings are my own personal view, and I can't lie to myself and give a good rating to something I don't like. When I decide to listen to something, I usually have an idea of what I am getting into, but that doesn't stop me from giving it a try. There is nothing better I like to listen to than something I have never heard before. Sure don't mean to dis anyone for what they like. We all have our own taste in music. If you like Dillinger, let it be known.
