I've been really involved in the works of Fahey recently. One of the most talented players of all time, to be honest. Right now I'm listening to "Fare Forward Voyagers". He has so many amazing albums, but I think thismay be the best of the lot

Fela Kuti With Roy Ayers - Music of Many Colours

This one features Ayers on Vibes & vocals. Fela & Roy wrote one side of the original vinyl album each. Ayers' contribution, 2000 Blacks Got to be Free is a Jazz Funk number that isn't to my taste at all, and came close to being the first album from the set I didn't like. Fela's contribution just about saved the album.

GEORGE JONES "all american country" cd,1996.

my second GJ album purchase after the Gospel album i got in The States in july,
although its not a bad album i should have got a real Jones cd rather than a "covers" album, and its not even a freshly recorded covers set, just a collection of 18 tracks from various stages of his career...
i love George's voice, but on these he tries to sound like whoever sang the originals IMO without actually trying to make these songs "his own"!
as you'd expect from a covers album of country greats, there are numerous Hank Snr songs on here, along with other standards...not a real good place to start a Jones collection IMO, but nevertheless at the discount purchase price i aint complaining too much..

    I LIKE THIS ALBUM

    worst track: tender years
    best track: aching breaking heart

    ,never even seen that one
probably wouldn't want it for the reasons you said, unless it was highly discounted
saw your favorite, and the first thought was Achy Breaky Heart
please George, never do that to me
An unimportant quarrel was what we had
We have to learn to live with the good and bad
Together we were happy, apart we're sad
This loneliness is driving me mad

Default Neil Young - Prairie Wind - 2005

    from my library (cd)

A gift from a mate. You can just look at a Neil Young album cover or even the title and know what you're gonna get.
This time I got what I wanted. My kind of Neil Young, folky/country, mellow for the most part. Don't much care for
when he tries to go all avante-garde on us, but he sometimes gets that wild hair. How can a guy be around this long
and still have it? Lost count of how many albums (28th here), and gave up trying to keep up. I have most of them
but was missing this one till now. Of course Neil's not "cool" anymore so his albums debut high on the chart, then
quickly fall. All them old hippies keep him in their hearts. This one made #11 US, #22 UK, and #3 in Canada. His
last one to go gold here. Appropriate that a premiere live performance of this album was done at the Ryman
Auditorium in Nashville. I can picture it since I have now visited the legendary home of the Grand Ole Opry. A clip
from that performance with Emmylou on This Old Guitar. She shows up on a few tracks here, though barely audible.
Favorite was tough, loving six of the 10 tracks with nothing getting a do not like. I guess the orchestra on It's A
Dream does it. One of Neil's finest efforts for me. Long may you run Mr. Young.

    I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Falling Off The Face Of The Earth

    Best Track - It's A Dream

In the morning when I wake up and listen to the sound
Of the birds outside on the roof
I try to ignore what the paper says
And I try not to read all the news
And I'll hold you if you had a bad dream
And I hope it never comes true
'Cause you and I been through so many things together
And the sun starts climbing the roof

    It's a dream
    Only a dream
    And it's fading now
    Fading away
    It's only a dream
Just a memory without anywhere to stay

The Red River stills flows through my home town
Rollin' and tumblin' on its way
Swirling around the old bridge pylons
Where a boy fishes the morning away
His bicycle leans on an oak tree
While the cars rumble over his head
An aeroplane leaves a trail in an empty blue sky
And the young birds call out to be fed

    It's a dream
    Only a dream
    And it's fading now
    Fading away
    It's only a dream
Just a memory without anywhere to stay

An old man walks along on the sidewalk
Sunglasses and an old Stetson hat
The four winds blow the back of his overcoat away
As he stops with the policeman to chat
And a train rolls out of the station
That was really somethin' in its day
Picking up speed on the straight prairie rails
As it carries the passengers away

    It's gone
    Only a dream
    And it's fading now
    Fading away
    Only a dream
Just a memory without anywhere to stay

    It's a dream
    Only a dream
    And it's fading now
    Fading away
    It's only a dream
Just a memory without anywhere to stay

    It's a dream
    Only a dream
    And it's fading now
    Fading away
