Now in Florida, we got Newt, Mitt, Ron, and Rick together. It seems it will be decided by Hispanics. If that is true, my guess is thatNewt would win the state then.

As an outside observer from Canada, I always wondered who can vote in the Primaries ? Anyone registered on the voter's list or only Registered Republicans ? ...does everyone in the US have to be "registered" as a Democrat or Republican or Libertarian ,,,,etc... ? ( I would hope not !). Just curious ..I find American politics very interesting compared to our cut and dry approach in Canada.

Otherwise if anyone can vote you have Democrats voting for Republicans ....hmmmm...interesting ?

Now the Big Question is: - Can Newt win against Mitt considering the fact that Mitt has more money ?

The biggies California and New York are coming up along with Mitt's Massachusetts..and his father George was once governor of Michigan ? California and New York have a large delegate vote for the convention.

It appears it may be a North vs South showdown in the end. Neither candidate can hold water against Obama in my view. Mitt is too phony and polished and Newt is a little rough around the edges and very defensive to say the least.

SteveO in Florida at least, only registered republicans can vote in the republican primaries. I believe that it's different in some other states. I just recently heard of that though. I thought it was the same everywhere.

Cherie- I sincerely doubt that Newt will get the Hispanic vote. I am from Miami and the vibe I get from friends and the Cuban family I'm married into is that Mitt is their man.

I watched the debate last night..........until I got bored lol. The thing that stuck out to me was that no matter what question they asked Ron Paul he somehow managed to answer it with his foreign policy. Everyone likes his foreign policy! So, I guess that's why he does that but I didn't hear him answering many other questions directly. He just brought up his foreign policy over and over again. I was disappointed I wanted to hear what else he has to say. Then again maybe he did say more and I had just tuned them all out by then.

Some states have open primaries where you can just walk in and place your vote for whoever. I wish I could tell you which states off-hand but I remember in the Democratic Primaries last election, when some state's primary was coming up Rush Limbaugh urged his listeners to go vote for "Hilary Clinton" to try and mess up the Democratic party giving the Republicans an advantage.

Never quite understood why some states have open primaries for that specific reason, but apparently some still do.

Unless they've changed since the last election, of course.

I am surprised Trace that you are married to a cuban. Good to know.
I thought Newt would have the hispancis because of Mitt's controversial stances on immigration issue.

Not quite, Crazy ! However it is the basic "Westminster" form of government. There are some differences and some similarities. Of course it's a parliamentary system,,, no House of Lords ...we have (Members of Parliament) known as the House of Commons and the useless Senate (not House of Lords)...consisting of Prime Minister appointees of notable citizens (ex politicians and millionaires) who sleep for the most part and serve from another country !!!!...ya there was this one guy in the Senate a few years ago who was so called vacationing in some resort ...problem was nobody missed him for quite awhile until he was ordered back to Canada !!!...unbelievable ...politicians eh !...lol

We don't have primaries , candidates up for election are voted in by local members who do not have to belong to a particular party. Then we have a General Election to vote for the members and the PM all at once.

Canada was having General Elections every two years or so because of minority Liberal and Conservative governments created by too many fairly significant parties (Conservatives, Liberals, NDP (New Democratic Party) and Parti Quebecois - intent on separation of French speaking Quebec Province from the rest of Canada.

Parliament recently passed a bill that only allows an election every four years like the United States of America.

Now with a majority Conservative Government and a strong opposition in the NDP (sort of like the British Labour Party) Canada is fairly stable except for economic problems that we are all facing.

One interesting proposal by the Government recently is to raise the eligibility of the Old Age Security Pension benefit from 65 to 67 years old ! It's like they want you to croak before you even receive one cheque !!!...lol. I think France has already implemented it in a desparate attempt to save money and stall the bankruptcy of Government pension plans...same reason here in Canada.

How does it work over in Australia, CH ?

we have three tiers of Government, local-which deals with localised city infrastucture, State-which deals with "state" issues and "federal" which oversees the country as a whole,
voting in Local Elections is voluntary...voting in State/Federal Elections is compulsar.
we dont have a "house of lords" set up but apart from that our system of elections on a State and Federal level are pretty close the the UK system.

Polling data show hispanic vote going to Romney, 52% to 28%.
